“It is good to see a New Testament scholar who wants to put the whole Bible together for us. I like it. You will be richer for reading Christian Faith in the Old Testament.”
“Steeped in decades of close attention to the Book of Hebrews, Gary Cockerill approaches the Old Testament as the promise leading to fulfillment in Christ. For all of us who believe that the Old Testament should be read the way Jesus and the apostles interpreted it, Christian Faith in the Old Testament is a gold mine.”
“As a pastor, Christian Faith in the Old Testament: the Bible of the Apostles really connects with me. I will use this well-written and informative book often in my reading, preaching, and teaching. In addition, I will encourage my congregation to read it! Dr. Cockerill helps everyone to grasp the wholeness of Scripture and provides aids to help us live an obedient life that reflects the full-scope of the Bible’s teaching.”
“Modern critical scholarship often questions the coherence and authority of the Old Testament, and many sincere believers are often confused and baffled by it. Just what does the Old Testament have to do with the Christian gospel? In this excellent and very edifying book, Gary Cockerill shows how—and why—the Old Testament is important. Christian Faith in the Old Testament offers insight for theologians (after a decade of teaching, I have learned from it) as well as much-needed and very accessible help for ordinary Christian readers of the Bible. This is a wonderful book—one to which I shall return often.”
