Publisher's Description

Based on qualitative research, this book explores and analyzes issues surrounding the re-entry journey of cross-cultural mission workers. It aims to promote deeper understanding and increased awareness of the complex nature of the re-entry experience, while highlighting loss and grief as a key aspect of it. This book advocates the necessity of a substantially more proactive and rigorous approach in caring for mission personnel as they navigate the hugely challenging transition of "coming home," and concludes with suggestions for ways in which this may be achieved.

Endorsements (4)

“For some time we have depended on anecdotal information on Grief, Loss and Repatriation. Finally, we have a book which delivers qualitative research proving what a complex issue this is. The insightful comments, questions and practical suggestions for individuals, organisations and supportive relationships will prove invaluable in negotiating the hazards of re-entry.”

Marion Knell

“This insightful book explores different experiences of re-entry after mission. Based on research interviews, we gain insights into factors which can influence the experience of re-entry. The author provides helpful recommendations for the returnee, their support network and for member care practitioners.”

Dr. Debbie Hawker

“We know that re-entry after serving cross-culturally is hard. Judy’s book illuminates why, particularly looking at loss and grief, using real-life stories. Some of her findings were surprising. This is a book for the returnee, their sending churches, the mission agency and the member care practitioner. I will be recommending it to all of my MA students here at Redcliffe College, with the caveat that they're going to need a highlighter pen to unearth the treasures within it!”

Sarah Hay

“It is important to have a book like this to build awareness, engagement, support and empathy for the whole re-entry process.”
