Publisher's Description

Mountain Streams: Restoring Our Nature is a contemplative work on the created order. God created human nature and the natural world to reflect the divine nature. Restoring our nature has a double meaning: (1) living in the natural way, the way God designed humans to live; and (2) preserving and protecting the natural world and wilderness by the way we live. Two major streams of thought flow through the book: the Eli Stanley Jones stream of thought, regarding faith, and the Aldo Leopold stream of thought, regarding wilderness and the land ethic. A deeper understanding of human nature combined with a better appreciation of the natural world is presented with forty meditations on spiritual principles and practices.

“Mountain Streams by Tom Nisbett is a moving book about our spirituality and nature. It is a reminder we are intertwined with creation, needing to allow ourselves to be present in and care for the beauty around us. While I myself am not a hiker or climber, the powerful descriptive words of Tom led me straight to the mountain top or sitting next to the gurgling stream. I was reminded how healing it is to be in nature, especially upon a wooded trail or looking across a mountain vista. God speaks to us when we quiet our minds and spirit, join him in his creation. Don’t miss this opportunity to be transported to a place of deep meaning and connection.”

“Mountain Streams offers a gentle, steady flow of devotionals where ecology and faith meet in everyday experience. Drawing inspiration from missionary E. Stanley Jones and naturalist Aldo Leopold, Thomas Nisbett invites readers to reflect on both their inner nature and the natural world, encouraging a deeper, more attentive walk with God. This is a thoughtful companion for anyone seeking spiritual renewal rooted in creation.”

Don Gordon

“There are not many people who have experienced mountain streams all over the world and in more unique settings than Tom Nisbett. Tom is also deeply immersed in the writings and life of E. Stanley Jones, one of the great contextual Christian leaders of the last century who is not widely known in the West. That combination of experiences and reflection invites us to a refreshing and wise collection of engagements that provide insight into creation, the creator, and provides nourishment for the soul. This is a perfect pocket companion for the next hiking trip, time at the lake, afternoon on the porch, or for the time when you need to escape to a place where you can find rest, inspiration, and refreshment.”

Steve G.W. Moore

“What a delightful book! It is so easy to read, so engaging, and so full of wisdom. Tom, who I have hiked with on the North Shore mountains, makes the mountains come alive. He helps you see them with fresh eyes, seeing God’s glory shining through. His references to fellow mentor Dr. E. Stanley Jones showed a deep appreciation of the gift of God’s creation, how the world is designed to work in Christ’s way. His weaving of the physical and spiritual is done seamlessly. I highly commend this book to others.”

Ed Hird

“It’s a delight to follow Tom Nisbett’s spiritual streams of consciousness from the his beloved mountains to the living waters that nurture us all. He reminds us that ‘The Lamb at the heart of the throne will be our shepherd and will lead us to streams of life-giving water. He will wipe every tear from our eyes’ (Rev 7:17).”
