Publisher's Description

The world has been reeling under the COVID-19 pandemic. Most individuals are already struggling to balance all the responsibilities and obligations of life amid the pressures of society encouraging materialism, hedonism, and egoism, leaving little time for self-reflection and introspection. The pandemic has thrust individuals into isolation cornering them to endure the loss of time and loved ones, providing no time or opportunity to reexamine priorities and beliefs. This book was written to remind each of us that it is important to appreciate the gifts we have been given by God: to be grateful to the known and unknown people who have helped us grow up; to be grateful for the smells that remind of us of the sweet memories of our past; to be grateful for the feel of the sunshine on our face; to be thankful to nature, animals, and pets; to be grateful for the feel of water falling on our skin on a hot day; to be grateful for the taste of food around the dinner table that bring us closer together; to be grateful for the time we have had with those we care for. This book is written to remind us to be grateful for the gift of life given to us by God.

Foreword

(wrote the foreword)

Mar Raphael Thattil

“Psalms of COVID-19 is a panoptic book which brings out a practical philosophy of life with remarkable success. The book is about the virtue of gratitude, which is drowned in the current global culture of materialism, individualism, utilitarianism, and hedonism. A constant disposition of gratitude for our being and becoming would make our life more authentic, meaningful, and worth living. A contemplative and introspective reading of this inspiring book will be highly beneficial to the reader.”

Joseph Ethakuzhy

“When we go through the pages of Psalms of COVID-19, we are filled with a sense of gratitude for all that we have received from God, nature, and others; we begin to appreciate rather than complain; we resort to cherishing rather than discarding; we begin to protect what we have been given rather than exploit; and ultimately, we become more generous rather than selfish.”

Thomas Tharayil

“I congratulate Matthew Palai for this remarkable work, which is beautifully drafted in the model of the Psalms. The reflections therein suit very much the contemporary situation beset with the pandemic of COVID-19. . . . These lines soothe the psyche with a healing touch and take the readers to the divine power.”

Kuriakose Bharanikulangara

“I consider this book a meaningful meditation for our present-day lifestyle. All the social evils present in modern affluent societies are very beautifully candy-wrapped in the form of prayers embedded throughout the book. This book is the fruit of deep contemplation based on observation, vision, and values, with support from science, philosophy, and theology.”
