Publisher's Description

This first volume of the Pentecostal Collaborations series contends that Pentecostal theology is a vital resource for Christian living and ministry in the contemporary context. Written as a collaborative effort between graduate students and Pentecostal scholars, it introduces a Spirit-focused approach for thinking about key topics related to biblical studies, theology, and missiology. Chapters consider a wide range of topics, such as the Holy Spirit and racial reconciliation; faith formation amid Western secularization; Spirit baptism and Pentecostal triumphalism; Pentecostalism and reading Scripture; Pentecostal implications of Rev 2:1–7; biblical inspiration in view of the Holy Spirit; missiology and Pentecostal ecotheology; shalom and intercultural conflict; and the role of eschatology in Pentecostal missions. Ultimately, the authors hope to show how one’s understanding and experience of the Holy Spirit can significantly benefit how one thinks about God, Scripture, and God’s mission in the world. If successful, Thinking with the Spirit will nurture an interest in Pentecostal studies for strengthening faith and empowering Christian witness for the twenty-first century.

“Herein, you will find a refreshing Pentecostal-Charismatic practical theology that integrates traditional doctrines with academic rigor across a myriad of disciplines. Christo-centric in all its ways, Thinking with the Spirit provides readers with a foundation to build upon disciple making at its core.”

Joseph S. Girdler

“The future of Continental Pentecostal scholarship has arrived! In this inaugural volume of the new series titled Pentecostal Collaborations, emerging scholar-practitioners and seasoned academician-educators collaborate in tackling vital issues in Pentecostal theology, missiology, and praxis!”

Veli-Matti Kärkkäinen

“Thinking with the Spirit is a much-needed addition for expanding Global Pentecostalism. Going beyond discussion of gifts and the miraculous, David Trementozzi and these young scholars model how the experience of the Spirit is involved in thinking theologically about a wide range of issues that tend to be left to others to work on.”

Alan Johnson

“Thinking with the Spirit reminds us that the activity of missions is not merely a strategy or program, rather a participation in the mission of God through the power of the Holy Spirit. The authors affirm that the future of the church’s mission depends not on our plans, but on our willingness to think, serve, and move with the Spirit.”

Larry Henderson

“This set of forays displays range and depth. This collection might just include a number of the first publications of the next generation of Pentecostal theologians in Europe.”

L. William Oliverio Jr.
