“This diary is a remarkable record of an extraordinary time. The entries from 2020 alone—charting the first lockdown, the pressure on policing, the ethical dilemmas of emergency powers, and the human stories woven through each week—show Alan Billings at his most thoughtful and grounded. His reflections provide a valuable record of leadership under pressure, written with compassion and a profound sense of public duty.”
