Journals of Brother Roger of Taizé, Volume 4

History & Biography

“With Brother Roger’s blessing, the Taizé community initiated what became an abiding spiritual, pastoral, and humanitarian outreach to the newly independent Ukrainian society (1991). By sharing the ecumenical spirit and promoting simple songs of prayer, Brother Roger inspired young generations across the globe. That such a man of peace was violently killed is a powerful paradox, a mystery, ultimately a sacrament—one that fully unites him with Christ. It is in the legacy of peace, fraternity, and Christian and human unity embodied in the Taizé community we see most clearly who Brother Roger was—and who he remains for the world today. The prophetic ministry and martyrdom of Brother Roger are a great treasure for all Christians, for all humanity.”
