History & Biography
“Leighton Ford's A Life of Listening is a candid and self-revealing sketch from years of ministry, encouraging us to listen so as to make rich our vocations. It was Leighton's listening to the needs of young people that gave birth to the Lausanne Younger Leaders Conference. In this open reflection on his life's journey, his voice presses us to ask, 'How well am I listening?' As we read of his experiences and insights gathered from an amazing history of ministry, watch for his mentoring guideposts to listening, as he calls us to be attentive to voices of the Spirit, making us wise in our callings.”
Christian Responses to Terrorism
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“In this important book, Gordon Heath and David Tarus have assembled a remarkable grouping of those with special awareness and insights into this global issue, with specific reference to the north and east of Africa. Within the shifting sands of peoples, ideologies, cultures, and human aspiration, this topic is critical. We are indebted to Heath and Tarus for providing insights on terrorism for our understanding and Christian witness.”
Climbing the Spiritual Mountain
Christian Living
“Raised in Canada's prairies, mountain climbing wasn't a recreational option. However, Alan and Elizabeth Davey have merged such wonderful metaphors into this spiritual collage that I can feel the strain and stress of the climb. Creatively unwrapping biblical stories, I see new pictures of faith and life. I'm never allowed an escape from the demands and exertion of the climb. Yet I'm affirmed in learning again what I already know and what is seen for the first time. Their insights provide three-dimensional viewing of the story, allowing me to overlay it on my life. This is a wonderful book for small groups, using a chapter a week, pressing into issues and concerns sometimes we leave aside. It is one I'll pass on to untrained and experienced mountain climbers alike.”
World Religions
“The interfacing of the Christian Gospel and Islam triggers conversations in most countries I travel, as political, social, and religious issues raise concerns over how these faith-driven convictions can live together. Dr. Wahba's invaluable service is in his laying out the basic factors, historically, the intertwining of faith and politics and in their respective core beliefs. This is a must-read for those seeking to understand these two major and global faiths.”
Green Shoots out of Dry Ground
Church Leadership & Ministry
“Bowen, in Green Shoots out of Dry Ground, captures the dilemma we face: wanting to be hopeful and inviting of Spirit-driven seasons, yet honest and reflective about the dryness of soil and too little rain. The bumpiness of opinion from one writer to another is helpful, reminding us that none has mastered the answers, yet all are desirous to see green shoots grow out of dry ground.”
Guide for the Christian Perplexed
Theology
“It's risky to offer oneself as guide as one isn't sure the reader will end up where you had in mind. These writers know that, for that is their profession. They also know this: that for answers to have meaning they must be found, and inquiry into the mystery of God involves more than writers as guide. This is a marvelous grouping of paths for the pilgrim on which they point out turns, junctions and dead ends.”
Christian Living
“In Joyful Perseverance, Ajith Fernando describes what it means to live out the gospel in demanding times and dangerous places. This is a huge gift to us all. For over four decades, Fernando and I have journeyed together in ministry, which has given me the opportunity to know that what you read in this remarkable text has been tested. Fernando has been relentless in finding life and inspiration in the God he loves and serves. Now we in our own moments of trials and wanderings can join with him in discovering those sources of joy which give life to carry on.”
Opening the Windows of Your Soul
Prayer & Spiritual Formation
“In this book, James Cantelon walks us through the most well-known of Jesus’s prayers: the Lord’s Prayer. Step by step, he acquaints us with the Creator and God of all, opening what he calls ‘windows,’ enabling us to see what we too often miss. I suspect none of us will ever again pray the Lord’s Prayer the same way. A magnificent addition to our understanding and faith in the risen Christ.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“Ron Nikkel and I walked into prisons in Central America—holes of despair, run by gangs, and, for many prisoners, no hope for an exit. It was here I saw Ron light up rooms with his unmistakable understanding, seeding faith and hope. You may never visit a prison, but Pilgrims and Prisoners becomes a personal visit into a world, neglected and ignored.”
Christian Living
““If you’ve ever felt a nudge, this book is for you. Roger Helland illustrates how the Spirit moves us into new zones of life and ministry as we recognize these ‘nudges’ from above. Let’s allow his inspiring accounts to replace an oft cynical view of inner tugs and help us accept that our lives greatly matter to Him.”
Prayer & Spiritual Formation
“Prayer is tough but simple, accessible yet often hidden in the weeds of our own insecurity, busyness, or lack of discipline. Wayne Baxter in Road to Renewal lifts the shadows of complexity, taking us into the sanctum made available by the one who envelops our lives. This is a book for learners and ancients, for personal and group study, and for those teaching others the rhythms and patterns of praying.”
Theology
“This marvelous book will help you make sense of how God by his Spirit works in our lives. Gabriel allows us to follow his life experience and walk with him as he touches base with the biblical text and helps us understand how the experiences of a Spirit encounter is what God has for us all. I’m so grateful for this book. It will bring clarity to confusion, and it will explain the legitimate life in the Spirit to those afraid of excess.”
The Bible for a Shifting Secular Age
“In an age of constricting secularity, a gasp for spiritual well-being can be heard across the land. Should we be surprised? It is to this issue that Dr. Domenic Ruso writes The Bible for a Shifting Secular Age, an important issue to which younger generations are giving serious attention. His outline and content carefully help us understand this issue in clear and relevant ways. I recommend this critical handbook to help us navigate our lives through the moonscape of our secular age.”
Arts & Literature
“I’m intrigued by how we find ways to assuage hurt, finding words to process our thoughts. In this collection of poetry, Jonathan Wilson leads us through the caverns of his sorrow and hope, allowing us to accompany him on this journey of faith.”
Church Leadership & Ministry
“The music begins. We see a welcoming wave, calling us to join. Not any dance, but one of God--the Three. Feel the rhythm and joy of being in step with our Lord and Creator. Sharon Tam in The Trinitarian Dance provides a working metaphor for leaders of the vitality there is in understanding and being in step with this God--Father, Son, and holy spirit--we love and serve.”
