… And the Church Actually Changed

Church Leadership & Ministry

“And the Church Actually Changed may be the most practical, insight-packed, easy-to-read, realistic, and hope-inspiring church leadership book ever written. Graham Standish is the ideal person to write this book; he combines the experience of a pastor with the sensitivity of a counselor and the insight of a widely-read scholar. Enthusiastically recommended!”

"God Is Dead" and I Don't Feel So Good Myself

Apologetics

“I was watching a TV documentary the other night that featured several highly religious parents dealing with their highly addictive adult childrens' drug and sexuality issues. 'Their faith seems to make them worse parents and worse people,' I said to my wife after the last commercial. I feel the same way when political leaders bring in religion to justify the unjustifiable, as they too often do. That's why I am so grateful for this brilliant book: atheism isn't just something to oppose or refute--it also can be a mirror, with much to teach us believers about ourselves and our distorted and unworthy ideas about God and religion. The atheist too is our neighbor, and God may want to speak to us all through the incisive insight of an honest atheist. Highly, highly recommended.”

A Divine Society

Theology

“When I met Dave Andrews, I could feel the fire burning in him. Then I heard him speak. Then I read his books. Ever since, he has been and continues to be a major inspiration in my life and work.”

A Million Miles in a Thousand Years

Christian Living

“the book, I couldn’t help but think about God and other people and the kind of future we’re creating together. That sounds like solid evidence that this uniquely talented and sagely writer/thinker/storyteller has given us another wonderful and life-enriching reading experience.”

A Reasonable Faith

Apologetics

“Where would we be without Tony Campolo? I encourage all Christians with open minds and hearts to let Tony's wisdom and passion challenge, disturb, and educate you.”

A Wilderness Zone

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“Time and again, Brueggemann shows us that, wisely read, the Bible is too powerful to leave to those who abuse it, especially at this moment of vulnerability, dislocation, anger, and fear. In A Wilderness Zone, Brueggemann leads us through Exodus (with excursions into the Psalms, Prophets, and other scriptures) in ways that illuminate not only the biblical text but also our path through these times. Brueggemann is one of our greatest sages, and this book is a treasure.”

A Year of Biblical Womanhood

Women

“A Year of Biblical Womanhood will instruct as it delights, and delight as it instructs. Of course it’s about womanhood, an incredibly important subject for 100% of the population. But it’s about a lot more too—how we read and interpret the Bible, for starters, and how we—both men and women—grapple with issues like justice, charity, silence, and grace in today’s frenetic world. On top of that, Rachel is such a gifted writer . . . you’ll be warmed by her good sense, good humor, and keen eye for beauty and insight on every page.”

Activist Theology

Theology

“In a world beset by interlocking supremacies—including white, Christian, rich, straight, cisgendered, and wealthy—Robyn Henderson-Espinoza announces a theology that lives out loud in the streets and expresses itself in day-to-day life, bridging radical difference not with mere tolerance or inclusion but with revolutionary love. Appropriately, the book climaxes in poetry by Ree Belle, because prose alone cannot adequately convey this urgent invitation to join in the ‘palpitation’ of the world for justice, joy, and peace.”

Adopted

Christian Living

“Kelley Nikondeha writes with the heart of a poet and a theologian, and as an adopted child and an adoptive parent. Who could have guessed that her story could give such rich insight into theology, family, society, racism, fear, and belonging?”

After Shock

Christian Living

“Page after page in After Shock, I've been blown away by Kent Annan's raw honesty, risky vulnerability and human sensitivity. On top of that there's his robust and clear writing style. And there's the simple fact of where he's been, what he's seen and felt, what he's asked and refused to accept, and how he's struggled to make sense of it all. It yields a rich book that has the chance, with your cooperation, to make you a better Christian and a better human being.”

All about the Bass

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“I wish I could take Scott Burson’s book back in time and give it to myself when I was a young Christian. It would have saved me from so many communication mistakes. It would have helped me be a better family member, friend, citizen, and pastor. It would have helped me be less of a ‘noisy gong and clanging symbol,’ and more of a person whose communication conveys the sweet music of love. It’s never too late to learn the valuable lessons offered in this practical, readable, intelligent book.”

All Saved Great and Small

Fiction

“David Howell tells stories that will intrigue, delight, fascinate, and haunt you. In All Saved Great and Small, he weaves together AI, climate change, a Chesapeake cult, conspiracy theories, religion, and the FBI. It’s a narrative cocktail that could too easily appear in tomorrow’s headlines!”

America's Original Sin

World Religions

“The word ‘conversion’ jumped out at me as I read Jim Wallis’s important new book. If Christians—especially white Christians—read this book, they will experience a real conversion, and the fruit of that conversion could bring healing to deep wounds in the soul of our nation. Such a conversion could also save lives . . . lives that truly matter.”

An Evangelical Social Gospel?

Theology

“Tim Suttle's first book, An Evangelical Social Gospel?, brings a message of balance and challenge needed by us all. This gifted new writer helps us rediscover one of our most-misunderstood old writers from a century ago. Highly recommended.”

Answering the Contemplative Call

Prayer & Spiritual Formation

“What Frommers, Rick Steves, and Lonely Planet are to travel guides for physical locales, Carl McColman is fast becoming for the spiritual journey. There is so much that recommends this delightful guide—Carl's own depth of experience, his wonderful ability to bring in apt quotations from the great contemplative saints of history, his ability to be both simple and deep without ever becoming simplistic or murky. As I read, I kept thinking of friends with whom I want to share this treasure—a travel guide to ‘an adventurous journey that will last forever. “What Richard Foster and Dallas Willard were to my generation— prime tour guides to the spiritual life—I hope and believe Carl McColman will be for the next generation. If you don't know about him and his work, you should.”

Ask Me for a Blessing (You Know You Need One)

Prayer & Spiritual Formation

“Imagine walking down a busy New York sidewalk. You see a blackboard that says 'Ask Me for a Blessing.' Curious, you stop. A warm-hearted and utterly approachable woman in a clergy collar listens to you and prays for you. You're so intrigued, you want to learn more, so you set up a lunch meeting. This book is like that conversation over lunch. You'll be (wait for it) blessed!”

At the Blue Hole

History & Biography

“I grew up in the sister non-denomination of the Churches of Christ, the Plymouth Brethren. Our heroes were J. N. Darby and George Mueller instead of Stone and Campbell, but the similarities between the two movements were striking, so I’ve always had a deep appreciation for my spiritual cousins, whether they be instrumental or non-instrumental. It takes courage to offer a way forward, courage to name some of the failures of the past, courage to offer a diagnosis and prognosis that require actual change in lifestyle. That’s what Jack Reese offers in these pages, and I pray many readers take this positive, honest, and challenging book to heart.”

Atonement for a Sinless Society

“Alan's book is clear, creative, deep, compelling, and inspiring.”
