Decolonizing Evangelicalism

Theology

“It’s too much to ask, I fear, that the people who most need Decolonizing Evangelicalism will actually read it. Too many of them have given their hearts to the Trump Klan and are too enthralled with The Art of the Deal to read anything else. But perhaps their children and grandchildren will dare to read this powerful book which unfolds as a conversation between two very insightful people with Evangelical roots, one white, one Native American. This book could change the next generation’s understanding of what it means to be Christian, Evangelical, and American (or Canadian), and that would be good news indeed.”

Disarming the Church

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“You may feel, as I do, that Christianity is at a historic crossroads, choosing between the ‘two masters’ of violence and nonviolence. In stark and sane contrast to those who defend and even promote violence in the name of God, Christ, and the Bible, Eric Seibart’s Disarming the Church represents the state of the art in accessible Christian scholarship regarding nonviolence. It should be required reading for every pastor, seminarian, and Christian of conscience, especially in a country whose capacity for catastrophic violence is unprecedented in history.”

Discovering Your Internal Universe

Counseling, Grief & Mental Health

“Science classes teach us about the vastness of the external universe. But who helps us explore our internal universe—our inner world of dreams and dread, of imagination and terror, of panic and peace? I can’t think of a better guide than this book and its author, especially if you are dealing with anxiety, which all of us do at least some of the time. Seldom has such wisdom been shared with such clarity and mind-awakening storytelling.”

Divine Nobodies

Christian Living

“I am tempted to say that Jim Palmer could well be the next Donald Miller, but what they have in common, along with an honest spirituality and extraordinary skill as storytellers, is a unique voice. So I might instead say that one of our best young writers in the future may well be called the next Jim Palmer. Divine Nobodiesis a delight to read, and it did good for my soul to read it.”

Embracing Queer Family

Marriage, Family & Relationships

“This tender, insightful, and substantive book will help you, your family, and your community respond with love to a queer family member. Drawing from the authors' own experience, it helps you navigate through confusion and conflict to trust, hope, and love.”

End of Story?

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“In End of Story? Andrew Perriman makes four significant contributions to the conversation among evangelical Christians on same-sex relationships. First, he engages with relevant biblical texts along with contextual resources from Greek and Roman literature. Second, he offers a concise review of relevant contemporary theological literature on the subject. Third, he provides his own critical assessment of the conversation at this point in its unfolding. Finally, he sketches out a way forward that many who work within a rigorous evangelical and missional hermeneutical tradition will find helpful. As always, Perriman’s writing is clear, concise, readable, respectful, practical, thorough, and engaging.”

Ending Hunger Now

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“Ending Hunger Now will help create vision that will translate into compassion that will move individuals, congregations, businesses, and nations to action...and the results could change history, affecting millions of lives for the better!”

Eternal Heart

Prayer & Spiritual Formation

“If you don't know about Carl McColman and his work, you should.”

Evangelicals and Liberation Revisited

Theology

“Joao Chaves builds a bridge that needed to be built--between liberation theology and evangelical theology. Each has much to gain from the other once obstacles of misunderstanding are removed, and that is exactly what Joao Chaves does in this short, clear, and needed book.”

Everyday Justice

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“Julie Clawson gets it. First, she gets it that most of us suburban Americans feel overwhelmed and guilty when we hear about justice. That's why she focuses on positive, doable ways that we can improve the justice quotient of our lives. Second, she gets it that we in the 'developed world' often have an undeveloped theology and lifestyle when it comes to key issues like fair trade, modern-day slavery, fossil fuel dependence, ethical eating and buying, and debt. That's why she gently, positively and hopefully helps us get 'development' where we need it most.”

Everyday Theology

Christian Living

“Kevin Vanhoozer, Charles Anderson, and Michael Sleasman bring together a bright team of culture readers who help us see common things in uncommon ways and describe them with uncommon yet useful terms. They are pioneers, I hope, of a new era among faithful people in constructive, discerning, and loving engagement rather than reactive, superficial, and judgmental antagonism toward our culture.”

Everything Good about God Is True

Christian Living

“When it comes to faith and spirituality, some people feel like they're on the outside trying to get in, and others feel like they're on the inside looking for a way out. Both groups will love Bruce Reyes-Chow's new book. He names the parts of religion that so many of us are trying to get away from, and he introduces an understanding of faith in God that so many of us would like to be part of. Highly recommended!”

Experiential Storytelling

Preaching & Worship

“Mark Miller has many gifts: an eye for what’s worth saying, a knack for saying it clearly and memorably, and enthusiasm that will keep you reading until the last page. And unlike many books that make their point early and then ramble on, this one picks up speed with each chapter, starting strong and saving the best for last. If you want to learn to speak the language of the emerging culture, let Mark be your mentor.”

Faith Unraveled

Apologetics

“With Faith Unraveled, Rachel Held Evans steps onto the stage as a gifted writer, an honest storyteller, and a compelling voice in the Christian community. She represents what is most hopeful and promising in a new generation of articulate, intelligent, and faithful young leaders.”

Faithfully Dissident Daughters

Women

“‘Faithfully dissident’—if those two words don’t seem to match, think about Jesus. Or think about Mary. Or think about St. Francis and St. Clare, or Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King. When you read Chelsea Kim Long’s beautiful, insightful, and compassionate new book, you’ll want to add your own name to the list of the faithfully dissident. I highly recommend this book!”

Father Abraham’s Many Children

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Through his rich and deep reading of the biblical stories of Cain, Ishmael, and Esau, Tyler Mayfield helps us see God, the Bible, our neighbors, and our neighbors’ religions differently. In today’s world, that’s a wonderful and needed accomplishment!”

Field Guide to Church of the Wild

Prayer & Spiritual Formation

“I had hoped that this Field Guide to Church of the Wild would give you practical, step-by-step instructions for forming and guiding a church of the wild. The authors actually give you something so much better--living examples of what people are actually doing right now in wild churches around the world. Be careful: as you read this book, you might just feel both an invitation and empowerment to bring some people together in an outdoor spiritual adventure.”
