Preaching & Worship
“In Table Talk, Mike Graves brings together a scholar’s mind with a pastor’s heart, and reintroduces us to the table at the center of Christian spiritual formation and worship. The appendix alone is worth the whole price of the book, offering us fresh ways to frame the meaning we find in a meal of bread and wine, thanksgiving and fellowship, remembering and joy.”
Evangelism & Missions
“It's harder than ever to talk about Christianity. The word means so many opposite things to different people. But that makes it more important than ever to talk about Jesus. Dave Stratton's new book will help you rediscover the joy of talking with people you love about the person you love.”
Talking about Jesus, Small Group Study Leader Edition
Evangelism & Missions
“It's harder than ever to talk about Christianity. The word means so many opposite things to different people. But that makes it more important than ever to talk about Jesus. Dave Stratton's new book will help you rediscover the joy of talking with people you love about the person you love.”
Marriage, Family & Relationships
“Wow! This is the one book I will buy and send to my adult kids who are raising kids of their own. And this is the one book I wish I had when I was a new parent. It combines research-based insight with deep moral and spiritual sensitivity, and it is written with both clarity and heart. (I had tears in my eyes more than once in almost every chapter.) Beyond the all-important parenting role, the six-needs framework is helping me better understand myself and others; it is a powerful tool for all human relationships. Where previous generations of parents referred to books by Spock, Dobson, or Chapman, future generations will refer to “Olrick and Olrick” as one of the books that every parent should read. A new parenting classic is born!”
Theology
“I didn't want to read this book. I didn't have time. So I just took a quick glance before moving on to other things. But in that quick glance, temptation came over me and I just kept turning pages. I couldn't put it down. It made me laugh. It made me think. You'd better be careful or the same thing could happen to you.”
Church Leadership & Ministry
“This book will challenge you to do some hard thinking and rethinking about how your church can engage with the emerging culture in your unique setting, with you and your team as unique individuals, in the unique moment in which you are living . .. whether you’re ministering in an established church rich in tradition, or in a new church-plant wide-open with freedom. No book can make your ministry easy, but a good book like this can help you rise to the challenge.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“The amazing array of voices gathered in this book will begin with good news about the progress we've made in addressing hunger since 1990. They'll share the hard news about what hunger is and what it does to human brains, bodies, and souls. Then, they'll invite you to be part of creating more good news, so you know how you can be a part of the growing global movement to end hunger—in our lifetime.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“The primordial story of Adam, in Enns’s hands, becomes a vantage point from which to explore the ancient world of the Jews and their neighbors, the relationship between science and Scripture, Paul as an interpreter, the development of the Hebrew Bible, the development of Christian thinking about the Hebrew Bible, and much more. It’s rare to find serious scholarship conveyed with such clarity and relevance. It’s a highly informative book that concludes with nine theologically significant theses.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Kelley Nikondeha writes with the textual insight of Walter Brueggemann, the historical understanding of Borg and Crossan, and the prose-poetry writing style of Barbara Brown Taylor. She brings her own unique perspective as a Christian with a mixture of Catholic, Evangelical, US, African, and post-colonial experiences. The result is a reading of the Advent stories that will illuminate the Middle Eastern world of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus--and our world today as well, so full of agony, anxiety, and pregnancy.”
The Gospel of Inclusion, Revised Edition
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“I'm pleased to see Brandan Robertson address the issue of human sexuality using the approach to biblical interpretation pioneered by the abolitionists, an approach that grapples with the ethical trajectory of Scripture toward inclusion. This book is simple, clear, and concise, and gets to the heart of the matter in a way that will both help church leaders and save vulnerable lives.”
Preaching & Worship
Foreword
“As brilliant an exploration of the act of worship as I’ve ever seen.”
The Homebrewed Christianity Guide to Jesus
Theology
“Tripp Fuller's Guide to Jesus is intelligent, insightful, reverent, raucous, and hilarious. If you don't understand how those adjectives can go together—all the more reason to read the book. An even better reason—the freakin' awesomeness of the subject!”
The Homebrewed Christianity Guide to the Holy Spirit
Theology
“From buttoned-down Presbyterian protocols to shaking-on-the-floor Pentecostal rowdiness, the Holy Spirit is understood in a wide variety of ways among Christians today. Theologian Grace Ji-Sun Kim dives deep into the confusion and controversy and emerges with a fresh and life-giving way of understanding and experiencing the Spirit—not just in church, but in life. You'll get a concise overview of the Spirit in the Bible, a helpful overview of the Spirit in church history, and an extremely helpful engagement with the Spirit in today’s diverse world in this enjoyably written and spiritually sensitive book.”
World Religions
“Things I [have been] thinking, but had been afraid to say out loud, Dave [has been] saying boldly. . . . He speaks to my soul in a way that nobody else does.”
The Missionary Letters of Vincent Donovan
Evangelism & Missions
Foreword
“When John Bowen let me know that he was editing Vincent Donovan's letters, I was thrilled because Christianity Rediscovered left me wishing for more: more of Donovan's insight into Christian faith and mission, and more insight into Donovan himself. As I read the letters, my curiosity was at once satisfied and intensified. The more I felt I was getting to know this fascinating man, the more I wanted to know . . . Thank God for the example--now more fully available to us, thanks to John Bowen--of that amazing missionary pioneer, Fr. Vincent Donovan.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“From introductions by Kay Warren and Melinda Gates … to stellar chapters from a who’s-who in Christian thought and leadership … to helpful how-to appendices at the end, this book will help you understand why helping mothers and children is key to making the world a better place. And more: you’ll learn how you can get involved, right where you are, to make people’s lives better everywhere.”
The New Big Book of Christian Mysticism
Prayer & Spiritual Formation
“It’s accessible, human, well-informed, balanced, broad . . . just what we needed.”
“No one is better placed than Tony Jones to offer an insider’s view of the emergent conversation in the United States. His clear and engaging writing style, his wide-ranging and incisive mind, and his extensive personal involvement make him the ideal person to tell his story and invite others to be part of it. The New Christians is instructive, inspiring, enjoyable, and a milestone in the development of this important young phenomenon.”
Marriage, Family & Relationships
“If you've heard of the Enneagram but never understood it, the introduction to The Path Between Us is worth the price of this book; it provides the best short introduction to the Enneagram that I’ve ever seen. Each chapter is equally amazing. If you struggle to understand and get along with anyone—spouse, child, parent, boss, coworker, employee—you will find insights into what makes them tick and how you can forge a path of connection to them. In the process, you’ll learn a lot about yourself as well. A treasure!”
