“Everett has written a beautiful representation of what life was like during and following WWII for a Jewish family living in Nova Scotia. It is a poignant story of the experiences of a family who are struggling with changes brought about by the war. The portrayal of the warrior soldier who has returned to a family who is not quite sure how to handle his pain and trauma caused by the war but is able to find a common bond through the sharing of their love of baseball is powerful and applicable to the return home of warriors from current wars.”
