Theology
“Am I a Christian? The reality of sin, suffering, and the sovereignty of God have each in their own way contributed to centuries-old reflections on the doctrine of assurance. A Question of Consensus is a welcome contribution within the field of post-Reformation theological studies. It is a privilege to follow a master in his careful reading of systematic and confessional texts. Jonathan Master's new book has deepened my understanding of this doctrine and the Westminster assembly’s formulations on the subject. What is more, it will help me, as a pastor, to help others who wonder where they stand before the throne of God above.”
Theology
“In Crisis of Confidence, Carl Trueman makes a fresh case for creeds and confessions. At a time when not only individuals but also churches are unsure of their purpose and identity, Christians have reason to be thankful for this useful update of an important book.”
History & Biography
“In this ambitious book, Dr. Purvis offers a concise account of how the Reformation generation read books, found help writing books, and captured words spoken in sermons, lectures, and lively debates. Reading the Reformation is just what this fascinating and impeccably researched study helps us do better. Both author and publisher, along with those who assisted them, are to be thanked for this fresh look at the job of writing and the joy of reading.”
Theology
“Dr. Barrett has gathered a full stable of blue-ribbon theologians for this winning volume. All the essays are carefully contextualized, the Reformers judiciously selected, and the bibliographies thoughtfully assembled. Some chapters are especially notable for the breadth and depth of the author’s research, others for their adroit summaries of complex themes. There is little doubt that Reformation Theology will ably serve the church and academy as a textbook for students and a reference work for scholars. It is already reshaping my own teaching on late-medieval and early-modern theology, and I commend it heartily.”
Theology
“In this latest book, Joel Beeke warmly welcomes us into his pulpit, his study, and even the place of his private prayers. To accept his invitation is to discover what it means for a sermon to offer both light and heat, and to learn how to preach the gospel as food for the hungry rather than as dessert for the deserving. In Reformed Preaching, Beeke introduces favorite figures from church history to form a composite picture of the experiential expositor. Even experienced expositors will find much to learn in this book from both the author and his friends.”
The Existence and Attributes of God
Theology
“As a true labor of love and scholarship, Mark Jones offers the church not another reprint but a new edition of Charnock’s best-known work. In this edition, explanatory essays, judicious comments, and expanded citations make Charnock more accessible and intelligible than ever before. As the nineteenth-century introduction notes, compared to many Puritans, Charnock ‘is more theological than any of them, and his theology, too, is more sound than that of some.’ As Jones’s introduction intimates, the same can be true when Charnock is compared to writers in our day. So start a book group and read about the existence and attributes of God with Charnock and his editor as your godly guides.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Christians with an appetite for knowing Jesus will find a feast in The Prayers of Jesus. Mark Jones serves up the finest in devotional food, teaching us how to come to the Father by observing the prayer life of his Son. I heartily commend not only the bite-size chapters but also Jones’s meaty historical and theological introduction.”
The Reformation and the Irrepressible Word of God
History & Biography
“These eight essays and the afterword both stimulate and edify. Everywhere we see the evidence of a strong team with an expert coach. The result is a scholarly but accessible book that advances Reformation studies and offers a clear win for a magisterial doctrine of Scripture. I heartily recommend it to students and experts alike.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“"Jace Broadhurst has offered us the most significant study to date of an early modern giant in the field of biblical studies. This compact volume helpfully illumines John Lightfoot's best insights on the plain sense of Scripture while graciously exposing a great man's inconsistencies. Unusually, Dr. Broadhurst's instincts as a historian are matched by his abilities as an exegete. . . . [T]his exploration of Lightfoot's hermeneutics is greatly enriched by the fact that our author intimately understands his subject's subject.”
Christian Living
“Here is a devotional study of the heart that reflects the pulse of the whole Bible. Craig Troxel offers an anatomy of the thinking, yearning, and acting of the heart. He employs the surgical tool of Scripture to address the sins of the heart, and brings the reader to the Great Physician and Keeper of the heart. Would you like to meet a strong and sufficient Savior anew and afresh? Read With All Your Heart!”
