Marriage, Family & Relationships
“Marriage books written by people who aren’t therapists or marriage researchers are usually full of ‘common nonsense’ that has little bearing upon marital success. Choosing Us is the exception. It is the long-awaited resource for couples committed to building progressive, equitable relationships where both partners have highly demanding careers. It is not a how-to guide to replicating Gail and Brian’s relationship. It is a source of wisdom for creating your own.”
Church Leadership & Ministry
“There are tons of books on church innovation. Liberating Church is one of the first to center Black religious experience. The faith communities profiled here remind us that God is indeed doing a new thing. If we move past our preconceptions and listen carefully, we just might recognize it.”
Women
“Research on trauma has helped us to understand that there is no liberation without liberation of the body. In Our Bodies Are Alive, Bridget Piggue points us to a liberating praxis that frees African American women’s minds, bodies, and souls from theological and cultural bondage.”

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“One of the greatest obstacles to the journey toward racial justice and reconciliation within the US church is the refusal of white Christians to confront the realities of white supremacy and white privilege. Here, Ken Wytsma comes alongside white Christians to help them tackle this issue, not from the perspective of a distant expert, but as one who continues to wrestle with how privilege and racism impact his own discipleship journey. Rooted in Scripture, history, and personal experience, The Myth of Equality is a valuable primer for anyone struggling to understand racism and privilege.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“Too often Christian leaders sacrifice theological depth for blithe encouragement. This is a book for Christians who have considered leaving the church when superficial theology is not enough. Yolanda Pierce helps us to hold the pain of this world together with the light and hope of Christ. In a time when critiquing the church is as common as attending it, Yolanda Pierce draws us back to the faith that sustained our ancestors, the faith that was, for many of us, our first love. With unparalleled theological insight and scriptural wisdom, she reconnects us to the spiritual might of the Black church and provides fresh sustenance in our modern context. This is a book to savor and return to again and again.”
Counseling, Grief & Mental Health
“Lewis-Giggetts is a master at weaving autobiographical narrative with cultural commentary, sharing her life experience and wisdom in such a way that it makes readers long to connect more deeply with their own. In Then They Came for Mine , she invites us to gaze at the wounds of racial trauma not as a sadomasochistic exercise but as a way to illuminate the way to hope and healing. This is not a book to be approached lightly. This is holy ground.”
