An Introduction to the Gospels and Acts
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This well-written book admirably summarizes the contemporary results of the scientific study of the Gospels and Acts in language accessible to the general reader. Puskas and Crump handle the complex and often pedantic scholarly debates in a lucid and nonpolemical way. Their documentation covers all sides of the discussion of critical issues. Deftly facing the challenges to a discriminating study of the Gospels, they deal with the problems in a fair-minded manner, providing readers with the scholarly information necessary to make their own decisions.”
Helping Jesus Fulfill Prophecy
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“A monumental work! Miller has provided us with a veritable handbook of prophetic texts--in Israelite and early Christian literature, from Genesis through Augustine--and a critical analysis of each prophecy, genuine and presumed, written in lucid and concise prose. The book is an essential tool for studies in early Christian prophecy.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“These creatively refashioned stories provide fresh resources for teachers, pastors, public speakers, and authors who wish the parables to come alive again in modern contexts.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“An informative survey of an extensive corpus of Christian apocryphal texts. Burke's prose, written in an engaging and comprehensible style, is particularly accessible to beginning students, but specialists in other aspects of the historical study of religion will also benefit from his succinct description of the field.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Via's book signals a major shift in the study of parables. . . . Via's theory of the parables, what they are and how they work, is different from every theory that preceded him, and his reviewers noted the uniqueness of his approach.”
