A Language for the Soul

Prayer & Spiritual Formation

“Stuart Devenish draws on both his true life of faith and wide, deep reading, when he puts before us here a delicious meal: the experience of Christian spirituality. The adventure of faith is always transformative, touching the mind as much as the spirit, changing how we sense life and how we live, concretely and in many respects. We are blessed in this book with the ingredients that flavor Devenish himself: a farmer, a missionary, a pastor, an academic; a practical Christian; a reflecting believer. Always with a lively, attractive Australian tang of freshness. We are all nourished by this food for the soul.”

Strangers in a Familiar Land

“In this volume of welcome substance, the pantheon of theorists of phenomenology is related with clarity to Christian identity formation amongst Thai converts. With a widely international scope in theoretical reflection and with localized Thai application in great qualitative depth, this study deserves warm appreciation in that context as much as in global missiological circles.”

The Spirituality of Following Jesus in John’s Gospel

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Sean Kim’s The Spirituality of Following Jesus in John’s Gospel is the most important work on spirituality in the fourth Gospel since The Revelatory Text by Sandra Schneiders in 1999. Keeping to the traditional literary-theological approach when combining Johannine studies with spirituality studies, finely-detailed exegetical work on the Gospel of John is here integrated with the most influential scholarship in spirituality studies. Based on a recent University of South Africa doctoral dissertation, the specialization over a quarter of a century on this topic by the supervisor, Dirk van der Merwe, stands this study in good stead. The Spirituality of Following Jesus in John’s Gospel advances both the academic disciplines here integrated, enriching an increasingly interdisciplinary world of theological scholarship.”
