Isaiah 40-66 (IBC)

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Julia O’Brien’s beautifully written commentary on Isaiah 40–66 is a gift to preachers and scholars alike! O’Brien weaves together the historical realities that produced the texts with their continued relevance in the contemporary world. The commentary provides a sustained awareness of the legacy of antisemitism in Christian engagements with the book. In its place, the commentary listens to the Isaiah traditions through the voices of those marginalized by gender and racial politics, as well as maintaining a sustained engagement with Earth-centered hermeneutics.”

Justice in the Balance

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Dr. John McLaughlin has written a very readable book that connects the legal traditions in the Old Testament as well as the prophetic traditions with the larger concept of justice. This book dispels many Christian characterizations of the Old Testament as legalistic and compellingly demonstrates that the laws and the prophets were deeply rooted in the covenant understandings of justice. The short chapters which focus on individual texts make this book a perfect resource for undergraduate classrooms and adult Bible study.”
