Theology
“Matthew Bingham calls us to leave the experiential shallows of modern evangelicalism and to plunge into the deeper understanding of Christian formation that was developed by the Reformers and Puritans from their sustained reflection on the word and works of God. This is an incredibly important new book—a word in season to those who are weary.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

John Eliot’s Puritan Ministry to New England “Indians”
History & Biography
“For several centuries, historians have described the ways in which the puritans who established settlements in the New England colonies shaped the formation of what became the United States. Focusing on John Eliot and his missionary efforts, Kim’s exciting new book makes a different case—that the American experience profoundly shaped what it meant to be a puritan.”
Jonathan Edwards on the Atonement
Theology
“Jonathan Edwards may be widely regarded as America's greatest theologian, but the significance of his legacy has often been disputed, especially in terms of the extent to which he influenced the theological innovations of his successors. Brandon Crawford's new account is a careful and nuanced reconstruction of Edwards' theology of the atonement, and a significant contribution to the intellectual history of colonial religion.”
Luther’s Augustinian Theology of the Cross
Theology
“Recent work on the reformation has emphasized the extent to which the legacy of medieval Catholicism was positively, if critically, received within the emerging protestant churches. Marco Barone's important study argues that Luther drew upon Augustine's work on soteriology to construct a critique of philosophical systems that emphasized epistemological and ethical autonomy. Barone extends this critique in fresh readings of Kant and Leibniz. Barone's conclusions may be provocative, but they deserve careful consideration by scholars across disciplines with interests in the relationship between early modern theology and philosophy.”
Sermons from the Early Restoration Years (1669–1675)
Theology
“Over the last seventy years, one of the most exciting trends in historical theology and in evangelical church life has been the renewed interest in John Owen. Crossway’s landmark edition of Owen makes his work and the scholarly interpretation of it as accessible as possible to new readers. This is a project of outstanding ambition and importance.”
The Doctrines of Grace in an Unexpected Place

The Genevan Réveil in International Perspective
History & Biography
“This groundbreaking volume describes a religious revival that spread far beyond Geneva—and which became the fulcrum for some of the most important developments in Evangelical cultures on both sides of the Atlantic. Including work from a wide range of experts, this volume balances definitive commentary with important new lines of enquiry.”
Marriage, Family & Relationships
“Richard Baxter's Christian Directory was one of the most compendious books of spiritual advice to be published in the seventeenth century. Its massive size, however, has hindered its usefulness in engaging a wide, evangelical audience. In The Godly Home, Randall J. Pederson has sought to remedy this by producing a volume that, with fresh urgency, presents Baxter's wisdom on family life and worship. Pederson's sensitive editorial care is to be commended. This is a work to be read and reread. I hope it reaches a wide audience and serves to awaken Christians to the need of an enduring godly legacy.”
The Scarlet Woman and the Red Hand
History & Biography
“The link between apocalyptic rhetoric and violence is rarely more obvious than in the Troubles in Northern Ireland (1966-2007). The discontents underlying this long ethnic, political, and religious conflict were fueled--and ultimately transformed--by varieties of biblical eschatology. Describing the lethal and creative potential of apocalyptic language in evangelical communities, this book offers a groundbreaking reflection on the question of whether texts are a cause or consequence of their contexts.”
The Westminster Confession of Faith and the Cessation of Special Revelation
Theology
“Scholars in puritan studies are increasingly alert to the variety of the movement's theology and spirituality. Garnet Milne's carefully-argued conclusions will provide a major resource for the reassessment of the most critical of puritan doctrines--the sufficiency of Scripture.”
