Women
“Evelyn Parker has done it again! Between Sisters will quickly become a primary resource in practical theology, Christian education, and pastoral theology for those seeking to understand the struggles and chronic despair of black girls, in this case mixed-raced girls. It also helps us peer into how some emerge from these experiences to become strong women of color. Resourcing personal stories, Parker studies the everyday realities that mixed-race female youth face in the intersectionality of race, gender, class, and sexuality. Parker seeks to be in solidarity for action and social justice. Her challenge is for us to weigh how emancipatory hope rises out of these girls' relationships--a hope that liberates through a process of forgiveness, femaleship, fortitude, and freedom. A hope with which Parker inspires us into solidarity for action!”
Christian Theology in Practice
Theology
“Miller-McLemore extends to us a fascinating invitation to join her in reviewing her own vocation in pastoral theology, gender studies, and practical theology thus far. . . . What we glean are not merely the critical insights of a leading scholar but a vital foray into the developments and movements of these disciplines in the academy and the practices of living faith. The gift here is the opportunity to discover the roots of scholarship emerging among these disciplines and to consider their growing edges still beckoning!”
Preaching & Worship
“With Jacobsen's unfolding vision of the preparation and practices that the sermon event encompasses, our eyes peer into the many theological challenges and practical wisdom of honed preaching methods and discernment. Thriving between the work of constructive and practical theology, Jacobsen has gathered a handful of prominent homiletics scholars to explore the enterprise of preaching as doing theology that is conversation praxis at its own theological roots. And we learn profoundly from their doing!”
