Early Christian Care for the Poor
History & Biography
“Did the early Christians have a different view toward feeding the hungry than the Greek and Roman pagans? Did the church’s view on charity for the poor change over time? These are questions answered by Richardson’s monograph. In the process, he may not only set the record straight but admonish the contemporary church. This is a timely and important study. Both professors and pastors should read it.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“The editors of this collection have assembled an international team to honor a worthy scholar. In so doing, the contributors have themselves pushed forward our knowledge of the field. The chapters of the Festschrift reflect Bartchy's lifelong interests in ancient slavery, women's rights, and the social-science interpretation of the Bible. This volume advances the conversation in helpful ways.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“We owe editors Pickett and Blanton our thanks for assembling such a distinguished international team to discuss such an important and relevant topic. This collection should resonate in Pauline scholarship for some time to come.”
The Radical Jesus, the Bible, and the Great Transformation
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“For more than three decades Douglas Oakman has taught us how to read the Bible using the social sciences as our guide. Always creative and sometimes provocative, this current collection continues in that endeavor. Both the academic guild and the faith communities need to hear this voice.”
