The Second Coming of Joan

Fiction

“Ray Lopez’s novel, The Second Coming of Joan, compellingly invites the reader to witness firsthand the vileness and destruction of war through the eyes of a young Serbian girl as she, her mother, and younger brother flee their home in Sarajevo to a refugee camp in Croatia, and eventually to a better life in the Netherlands. The magic of this tale lies in the author’s ability to interweave Nadja’s innermost thoughts as she experiences unspeakable horrors and struggles to understand her place within the ever-changing landscape of the war with the parallel story of Joan of Arc and the search for spiritual comfort and meaning in this dark and dangerous world. A truly beautiful tale of survival, discovering your light, and ultimately hope. I highly recommend it.”
