David C. Wang
Prayer & Spiritual Formation
“Throughout history, the people of God have found themselves in seasons where they are deeply rooted and seasons where they were wandering and without a place of belonging. Hospitality is indeed a spiritual discipline that is at the very heart of Christian vocation and the Christian journey. How we make space for others seems to have profound implications on how we make space for God. Becoming a Person of Welcome is a rich, personal, heartfelt, and thoughtful resource that walks us through both the heart and the practice of Christian hospitality. It is as if Laura Baghdassarian Murray is personally accompanying you through a guided retreat.”
Cultural Diversity and Psychology
World Religions
“The telos of studying culture and diversity from a Christian perspective is for us to faithfully pursue the greatest commandments—to love God and to love our neighbor. What many don’t realize is that our relationship with God, who is transcendent, is fundamentally an intercultural relationship. And the majority of the global family of God now resides in the Global South and similarly does not share the same cultural assumptions as those of us who live in the West. Cultural Diversity and Psychology: A Christian Engagement fills a gap in the literature by equipping people of faith to engage in these topics thoughtfully, rigorously, and in dialogue with core Christian commitments.”
Counseling, Grief & Mental Health
“The world of the integration of Christianity and psychology is ripe for a shift. Although they have served an important function in their time, classical texts on integration were largely predicated on models that were both theoretical and abstract. Furthermore, these models were assumed to transcend context, being equally applicable to individuals of varying dimensions of identity. Indeed, while our faith identity represents the starting point and central facet of who we are, it does not negate the many other facets that also reflect God's handiwork in creating us as uniquely—us. This is perhaps most evident when I teach integration in other parts of the world. I am realizing more and more that what I have learned about integration isnot integration par excellence but rather Western psychology and Western theology, integrated in a Western way. And while this is still helpful, it does not represent all there is to say about integration. A new conversation needs to be started that offers a fresh look on the topic, taking local context seriously. Embodying Integration, written out of a posture of humility and life that has been lived, represents such a text, and I am happy to offer it my wholehearted endorsement.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“The next generation of scholarship in the world of integration (of Christianity and psychology) needs to speak more directly to the problems of everyday life experienced by both Christians as well as non-Christians. And as I reflect on the many social ills of our day, I cannot think of an issue that is more pressing than the topic of race, and I cannot think of a work more compelling than the cultivation of Christ-inspired healing and shalom. I am so pleased to offer my endorsement of Healing Conversations on Race—it is an honest, personal, and practical resource informed by recent scholarship.”
Listening to Sexual Minorities
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“The research and insight found in Listening to Sexual Minorities: A Study of Faith and Sexual Identity on Christian College Campuses is profoundly timely and relevant—not just for Christian educators, but for all of us who are committed to loving and sharing life with the many sexual minority individuals in our families, churches, and communities. One of the greatest hindrances to this end is that although many strong opinions abound, there are few opportunities to listen and bear witness to the actual stories, experiences, and complexities of our sexual minority friends and colleagues—especially those who are professing Christians. Yarhouse, Dean, Stratton, and Lastoria have assembled a scholarly, comprehensive, readable, and human introduction to the stories of such individuals; I highly recommend it because the world needs to hear what they have to say.”
Counseling, Grief & Mental Health
“This book addresses a great need in the world of pastoral counseling and spiritual care. It brings into dialogue the latest insights from trauma theory and research with deep theological reflection and practical guidance.”
Christian Living
“The Christian vision and reality of a flourishing and prosperous life is holistic, encompassing encompassing every facet of one’s life. What I appreciate most about The Ways of Prosperity is its keeping of this holistic perspective, all while remaining grounded in Scripture and faith. Jeremy and Ally speak from their hearts as well as from their own life stories, and I believe that these insights collected here have capacity to speak into yours as well.”
