A New and Ancient Evangelism

Evangelism & Missions

“If truth be told, the majority of Christians in the West are not sharing their faith with anyone. We are in sore need of a fresh examination of evangelism. Judith Paulsen’s A New and Ancient Evangelism is that foundational text. No stone is left unturned, no pathway is ignored, as she walks us patiently through the conversion stories of Scripture to a new imagination for what evangelism can be in the post-Christendom worlds of the West. Comprehensive, engaging, profoundly theological. Read Paulsen’s book and become awakened to what God is doing all around you in bringing the world to himself.”

A Path Called Compelling

Christian Living

“A Path Called Compelling is a heartfelt winsome guide through a journey every Christian must take. In it, following Jesus becomes more than the truth we believe. He becomes our way of life. A master at telling a good story and a serious reader of the biblical text, K. Bradley Watson has written a gift of a book for all of us seeking a deeper life in Jesus.”

Advancing the Vision

Theology

“Advancing the Vision is a fine tending to the fertile soil that is the Fourfold Gospel, the deeper life, and the centrality of Jesus for life, ministry, and mission. With rich experience and scholarship, each essay opens surprising pathways for new contexts and cultural challenges. It is a volume that speaks to the vibrancy of the Jesus-filled message that lies at the core of the Christian and Missionary Alliance worldwide.”

An Emerging Dictionary for the Gospel and Culture

“There is a growing need for a guide that can help Christians find our way through the new frontiers of the post-evangelical landscape. The rate of theological, cultural, and church developments is breath-taking. Even the best read among us are finding it hard to keep up. An Emerging Dictionary for Gospel and Culture meets this need. Creatively, with much skill and breadth of knowledge, Leonard Hjalmarson has provided a tool to help us manage the complexity of the many new conversations surrounding what God is doing in these exciting days. I highly recommend it."_”

Better Than Brunch

Evangelism & Missions

“Better Than Brunch is a fascinating study of the church growing in ‘the carcass of Christendom’ in Cascadia. Byassee and Lockhart tell these stories masterfully so we all can learn how to redescribe church for the new world coming. A surprising book packed with much inspiration. Read it and learn mission all over again.”

Cancer Is Funny

Counseling, Grief & Mental Health

“Coming to terms with death ain’t easy. And yet, as Jason Micheli says, none of us is getting out of life alive. Thankfully Jason Micheli has given us a surprising book like Cancer is Funny, which, it so happens, is as hilarious as it is thoughtful and deeply faithful. Cancer is Funny is funny. It’s also personal and reflective, urgently so. It will not only teach you about yourself, it will teach you about God too. A riveting journey through the suffering that, as he puts, God may or may not be doing to him—a question everyone of us has asked, or will some day soon. Don’t be fooled by the title. Suffering, it turns out, can lead to laughter because you can’t face death without rediscovering the wonder of life.”

Centered-Set Church

Discipleship & Christian Education

“Mark Baker's Centered-Set Church is a life-giving exposition of a life-transforming concept. With each story, he draws us in to another way of being the people of Jesus in the world. We leave judgmentalism behind, we lose old ways of drawing lines, and Hiebert's concept comes alive. A must-read for us who are called to lead churches to engage this world with the good news of Jesus Christ.”

Compelled

Church Leadership & Ministry

“Compelled is a book that both loves the church and challenges the church. With seasoned eyes, Kurt Fredrickson looks into the soul of the pastor who knows the grind of its daily tasks. Amid the cultural decay and the church’s waning he asks, ‘Can these bones live?’ and then offers pathways, not solutions. Brutal in honesty, ebullient with hope, I believe Compelled is the book for this cultural moment.”

Creating a Missional Culture

Church Leadership & Ministry

“JR Woodward reads widely, writes deftly and lives deeply. His book Creating a Missional Culture reflects all of that. Read it and explore what leading can be in the strange new worlds of mission in North America.”

Cross Vision

Theology

“If you love the Bible but are torn by its violence, use this book as your therapy. Turn its pages and allow Boyd to unwind the majesty of the way God works. Afterwards, you’ll find yourself more in awe of the God of Israel and even more confident that this God has inspired the Scriptures as his word. You’ll agree with me that Cross Vision was a book well worth your time.”

Demystifying Evil

Theology

“Probing the depths of human experience, Ingrid Faro addresses evil, what it is, how it works, and how God in his goodness overcomes it. Breathtaking in her honesty and relentless in her biblical scholarship, Faro broaches the subject we all must eventually face. Demystifying Evil is a masterful treatment of a fundamental issue from a voice uniquely gifted to write this book. A truly overwhelmingly powerful book.”

Eldership and the Mission of God

Church Leadership & Ministry

“Intensely practical, thoroughly rich in wisdom, Eldership and the Mission of God is a book on church leadership that defies its stereotype. As well-honed practitioners and careful thinkers, Briggs and Hyatt recast everything about elder work for its call to mission. I wish I'd had this book twenty years ago.”

Every Body's Story

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“Every Body’s Story is a readable, scholarly engagement of sexual discipleship for our times. Brilliantly deconstructing the sexual mythologies that control our lives, Branson Parler opens the door to the new worlds of covenantal faithfulness with God and his long story of saving the world. It’s been a long time since I’ve been this encouraged after reading a book about sex!”

Everywhere You Look

Church Leadership & Ministry

“With this book, Tim Soerens sets us on a journey to reexamine 'Why church?' A manifest plea to all who are ready to give up on church, Everywhere You Look invites us to find new practices, pray with new fervor, and embrace a new church emerging all around us. Reading it will force you to think, imagine, and do new things.”

Forming Communities of Hope in the Great Unraveling

Church Leadership & Ministry

“Here we stand in misbelief at the collapsing of the institutions that have formed our lives. Gladly, Al Roxburgh and Roy Searle offer us hope. Their book Forming Communities of Hope in the Great Unraveling reminds us that God is still present and acting, that God has given us practices to join with him in the forming of his people anew. Forming Communities is a riveting masterpiece written to churches seeking a path forward in our times of disillusion and decline.”

God Without Violence, Second Edition

Theology

“Combing through Scripture, unraveling the history of doctrine, J. Denny Weaver makes the case that God is nonviolent. Centered in Jesus, God Without Violence is a wonderful comprehensive guide to how God truly saves us and the world. I welcome this second edition of this profoundly paradigm-shifting work for the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Gospel Portraits

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“In Gospel Portraits, K. Rex Butts bids us come to the Bible with new and fresh eyes, so that we might see Jesus at work in our lives, our context, our world. Very personal and well researched, from a pastor who is a scholar, this book offers us a fresh invite to think through scriptural hermeneutics for the formation of Christian mission.”

Grieving Room

Counseling, Grief & Mental Health

“Grieving Room reminds us to take the work of grieving seriously. It is a patient, kind, deeply personal and wise work of spiritual direction through the rooms of grief. Much thanks to Leanne Friesen for this extraordinary gift.”
