Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“Regarding the U. S. criminal justice system and poverty, Rev. Brooks Harrington has done much and perhaps seen it all. Prosecutor and minister, Harrington’s qualified insight of these social issues rings disturbingly authentic. Many citizens believe ‘the poor’ are simply victims of public policy. In the spirit of Rauschenbusch and Gladden, No Mercy, No Justice exercises biblical norms and Jesus’ gospel principles to inform believer’s treatment of the poor—our American Achilles heel.”
Preaching & Worship
“In the venacular of ‘called to preach’ one could suggest that Lawrence Wood received some kind of divine ‘call to write’….When I finished reading One Hundred Tons of Ice and Other Gospel Stories, I felt like a better preacher simply because I had spent time with a master storytelling preacher named Lawrence Wood.”
Preaching & Worship
“As various pseudo-experts make hay of dubious environmental science, John Holbert offers us reliable and exegetically sound biblical theology in order to help us address a creation that human beings are 'trashing.' Not just this, but Holbert helps the church address these ecological issues via the faith we preach.”
Preaching & Worship
“In my part of the country, when a preacher brings the arsenal of scholarly credentials that Bob Hill does to the preaching task, then listeners habitually fold their arms and say to themselves: “OK, preacher—Wow, me!” And yet, for all his vigilant scholarship and literary finesse, Hill makes reading this sermon collection a delight.”
