Women
“With a combination of careful biblical interpretation and insight from the reservoirs of experience, Kendra Dahl offers a compelling vision for God's plan and purpose for women. Anyone who doubts that traditional Christianity can and should honor women's vocations to serve Christ and His church will find this work consistently refreshing. Although Dahl addresses a female audience specifically, this book is filled with a Christian wisdom that is edifying for the rest of us as well.”
Theology
“With this volume, Michael Allen and Scott Swain continue their promising project of Reformed catholicity. Those of us who identify as confessional Reformed Reformed Christians should embrace their call to center our faith and life around the Scriptures, yet to do so as participants in an ancient and enduring community of believers who have mined the Scriptures and confessed the faith before us. Christian Dogmatics brings together a diverse group of thoughtful and accomplished theologians who take up the editors’ call for retrieval and reflect upon most of the main themes of Christian theology. Their constructive proposals embrace a variety of classical and revisionist ideas, and although no reader will embrace everything proposed herein, no one will fail to be challenged, edified, and spurred on to further study of Scripture with the help of our theological forebears.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“Christians anxious about an increasingly pagan culture have many reasons to be encouraged. One of them is that Christ’s church has already experienced such a trial and has left us extensive evidence of how it responded. Stephen Presley has done honorable service for contemporary Christians by presenting the early church’s wisdom in confronting and engaging its own pagan culture. Presley helps us see an attractive, godly, and productive way forward that provides a strong remedy for the bitterness and discouragement many Christians feel today as they survey their cultural landscape.”
Christian Living
“The spirituality of the church is a crucial doctrine and a rather simple idea, even if it is sometimes challenging to apply. Yet the church can so easily lose sight of this doctrine or simply reject it, especially in times of high political tension. Alan Strange’s clear and charitable appeal for the ‘mere spirituality of the church’ is thus timely and welcome. Contemporary readers would do well to ponder Charles Hodge’s wise reflections in the midst of his own politically charged context, and Strange is an excellent guide.”
Church Leadership & Ministry
“Greg Forster offers a passionate call for Christians to pursue industrious, thoughtful, and patient labor in all of their life’s callings for the humble and biblical goal of blessing their neighbors. Those tempted to dismiss their ordinary occupations as necessary evils will find much to challenge and motivate them in these pages. Especially helpful are Forster’s chapters on economics and politics, and their stimulating discussion of work, citizenship, and neighborliness.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Matthew 13 presents a series of incisive parables that lie at the heart of this Gospel. Martin Emmrich unlocks the power and beauty of this chapter in an original and edifying way. Best of all, he shows how Christ and his kingdom are the most precious thing, despite the apparent weakness and foolishness of the kingdom in this present age.”
The Fall and Redemption of Conscience
Theology
“With theological insight and spiritual maturity, Andrea Ferrari provides something we’ve needed for a long time: a Reformed theology of conscience. Ferrari offers a compelling argument that conscience is a recurring theme in the Old and New Testaments and that conscience must be understood in the context of theology proper, anthropology, and soteriology. This is an enriching study that will be foundational for all future Reformed reflection on the topic.”
Christian Living
“Forster does a wonderful, twofold service for God’s people in this book—he retrieves Calvinism from portrayal as a dark and distasteful version of Christianity and, instead, presents it as an attractive and beautiful expression of biblical religion. Forster speaks with deep wisdom rooted not only in a well-informed theology, but also in his own experience as he wrestled with the sufferings of life and ultimately found comfort in the God who is profoundly merciful and sovereign in Christ. I highly recommend this book for all who seek godly encouragement and joy in the midst of life’s trials.”
The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self
Theology
“Those looking for a light read that provides escape from the cares of the world will not find The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self their book of choice. But this volume will richly reward readers who don’t mind thinking hard about important (though sometimes unpleasant) topics. Christians have been taken off guard by how rapidly cultural mores have changed around them, but Carl Trueman demonstrates that radical thinkers have long been laying a foundation for these developments. Readers should press on to the end—the final paragraphs are among the best.”
