Theology
“Freedom and Imagination offers a timely and wide-ranging study of the Christian life as trust in Jesus Christ, contrasting that life with trust in the false gods dominating the cultural and political landscape of our day, whether on the right or on the left. It tells the story of how the "bad faith" produced by our misdirected trust in "ideology" displaces Jesus Christ, the eternal and risen Lord, from the center of the gospel, replacing the gospel with "broken cisterns" (Jer 2:13) unequal to the task of reconciling the world to God in Christ. This book challenges the church of our day to embrace a cross-shaped and reconciled imagination that exists apart from our ideologies. While I was reading it, a lyric from Bruce Cockburn's "Child of the Wind" came to mind: "Little round planet in a big universe, sometimes it looks blessed, sometimes it looks cursed. Depends on what you look at, obviously. But even more it depends on the way that you see." Giere's book will reorient the way that you see (fair warning to potential readers!).”

“Frank Spina’s insightful study convincingly demonstrates that the centrifugal forces that dismantled the fragile political unity of the Davidic monarchy grew out of familial and tribal divisions in the patriarchal period. Most Christians remain unconcerned about division among God’s people, because a defective view of the two Testaments has produced an ecclesiology in which God’s judgment of divided Israel has ceased to inform God’s dealings with the post-apostolic New Testament Church. His book is a helpful study on a highly controversial topic.”
Theology
“German's study offers a helpful corrective to what nowadays might be styled a "christotelic" reading of Luther's early work on the Psalms, while also uncovering the importance of the Psalter's literal sense for Luther's approach to christology and ecclesiology. Engaging and brilliant.”

“". . . the book is well worth reading for its insights into the literary structure and intertextual relations with Daniel.”

“Brian Hughes offers a perceptive analysis of the issues surrounding the interpretation of Proverbs 8 and its reception history. He provides a close reading of the text in conversation with a range of historical critical and traditional interpreters, then draws upon the hermeneutical insights of Hans-Georg Gadamer, Paul Ricoeur, and Charles Taylor to advance a case for the text’s ability to lay claim upon future readers who inhabit the world ‘in front of the text.’ His book is a useful resource for those who are interested in recovering the theological wisdom of Proverbs 8 for the contemporary church.”
