The Light That Is Given

“In The Light That Is Given, Patricia Dallmann assembles a great cloud of witnesses, ranging from the Old and New Testaments, Quaker tradition, and many other sources—Christian and non-Christian. Dallmann’s short essays arise from various times and occasions in her life, in a manner akin to the long tradition of Quaker spiritual autobiography. This practice grounds her witness in a fresh sense of life in the Light.”

Turning Toward the Victim

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“In Turning to the Victim, Thomas Gates presents a compelling critique of violence, combining Rene Girard’s scapegoat theory, fresh approaches to Scripture, and new perspectives on the early Quaker message and movement. His findings will challenge Friends and others today toward a deeper, more integrative understanding of violence—and its alternatives. To turn to the victim is to turn away from so much of the violence that surrounds and often still mystifies us today.”
