Reading Mark in Context

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Reading Mark in Context is consistently informative, respectful towards the primary texts, and eminently readable, written by scholars who have published on the Gospel of Mark, and thus a helpful guide for students and pastors who seek a better understanding of the most concise of the canonical Gospels.”

Revelation

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Having written a highly regarded commentary on Paul’s Letter to the Romans in the BECNT series, Tom Schreiner presents here a superb commentary on John’s Revelation. It does not require prophetic insight to say that his new commentary will be as much appreciated by scholars, students, and pastors alike as his commentary on Romans. Schreiner consistently focuses on the meaning of the text, which he surveys and assesses with his customary fairness and thoughtfulness. Readers will benefit from Schreiner’s exegetical expertise, linguistic prowess, familiarity with international scholarship, judicious engagement with older and newer debates, and, perhaps most importantly, his love for the church.”

Roman Crucifixion and the Death of Jesus

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Woodrow Kroll has written a survey of the available literary and archaeological evidence for the capital punishment of crucifixion which he applies to Jesus’ crucifixion as reported in the Gospels. The book will help lay readers understand the horrors of crucifixion and appreciate at a deeper level Jesus’ death on the cross.”

Thanking God Emphatically

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“David Dickenson’s dissertation presents a cogent argument that the three thanksgiving passages in 1 Corinthians are emphatic in the sense that they convey an indirect rebuke of the problematic, shameful attitudes and modes of behavior of some believers in Corinth. This publication is a model dissertation in terms of the analysis of the Greek text, interaction with a wide (international) range of secondary sources, diligence of building an argument, and cogency of conclusion. Scholars, students, and pastors will learn much about 1 Corinthians, giving thanks to God and the truth and relevance of the gospel for everyday living.”

The Divine Christology of the Apostle Paul

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“The New Testament is a book about Jesus of Nazareth, who is Messiah, Savior, Lord, the embodiment of God in his salvific revelation to Jews and Gentiles. In The Divine Christology of the Apostle Paul, readers encounter an analysis of past and present scholarship as well as detailed exegetical work on Paul's statements about Jesus. Since Paul preached nothing but the crucified Messiah (1 Cor 2:2), this important book addresses the foundation and center of Paul's proclamation and theology. As the book accessibly combines interpretive and theological depth, scholars, students, pastors, and all who are interested in what Christians believe will benefit immensely.”

The Final Days of Jesus

Theology

“The Final Days of Jesus helps believers take note of the historical events leading up to Jesus’s death on the cross. Readers are challenged to see the provocation that Jesus’s message and life represented, leading to his arrest and execution. The book demonstrates that historical facts and Christian worship can and should go hand in hand.”

The Joy of Hearing

Theology

“Believers, pastors, and students who look for a reliable guide to the last, and climactic, book of Scripture are superbly served by Tom Schreiner’s volume on Revelation. The Joy of Hearing prepares readers for an encounter with a text some deem to be the most difficult book in the Bible. This encounter focuses on the foundational and central theme of Scripture more generally: God’s people not only do well to listen to God in whom they believe, they also experience the joy of God’s holy presence and sustaining faithfulness even, and especially, in the midst of suffering while remaining committed to the sure hope of one day living in God’s very presence. Tolle, lege—take and read.”

The Letter to the Ephesians

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Readers will benefit from Schreiner's exegetical expertise, linguistic prowess, familiarity with international scholarship, judicious engagement with older and newer debates, and, perhaps most importantly, his love for the church.”

The Trials of Jesus

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Here we have another ‘classic Barnett’: a historical investigation combined with theological considerations, a consistent focus on the biblical and relevant extrabiblical texts, and a refreshing refusal to engage with (and drown in) secondary literature. The general reader will benefit immensely from reading Barnett’s latest study of Jesus and the early church.”
