Theology
“The late Sallie McFague left us with yet one more amazing gift. In her usual inimitable, clear, and compelling prose, McFague offers Christians a response to the existential threat that climate change poses to our planet and all of its inhabitants. Science and theology share a common story, she demonstrates: that all of creation is relational and interdependent—in life and death. Dying gives rise to new life—at every level—and embodies the self-emptying love of the Trinitarian God. May we follow her exhortation to embrace our place in the cycle of life and love so that this vibrant world may flourish.”
Prayer & Spiritual Formation
“In luminous and lithe prose, Farley invites readers into a more contemplative life. She situates that life in an alluring and compelling theological vision; one that connects the human and the divine not through arduous discipline, but through beauty, wonder, and compassion. That theological vision is, in turn, embodied in the gentle guided walk through various practices she offers in the concluding chapters. It’s an invitation that I hope we’ll all accept – for our own sake as well as that of our troubled, yet beautiful world.”
Theology
“Drawing on the deep wisdom of years of teaching and research, Kamitsuka invites readers into a beautifully crafted deep dive into eros as what connects us to one another and to the divine. Equal parts poetic and literary, biblical and theological, historical and contemporary, conceptual and lyrical, Desirable Belief offers a vital healing balm to all of us.”
Philosophy
“Framed through three theological virtues (faith, hope and love), Kline offers readers a unique and insightful perspective on Kierkegaard as an apophatic theologian. Long a student of this iconic theologian – as both thinker and spiritual guide—he adeptly channels and expands upon Kierkegaard’s often iconoclastic take on the fraught project of putting faith into words. The conclusion, a set of abstract paintings by the author, is not to be missed.”
Theology
“"Pastoral theology needs a theory and practice of recognition that can work with and beyond identity politics, argues Lassiter. In accessible and inviting prose, she cultivates those resources in dialogue with feminist and queer theorist Judith Butler, queer Argentinian theologian Marcella Althaus-Reid, and psychoanalyst Jessica Benjamin. A profound and important contribution to her field and to all who share Lassiter's sense of obligation to those relegated to the margins of church and society.”
