Classical Christian Doctrine

Theology

“Ron Heine offers his usual wise words for the beginner in Christian theology. Although written in simple language and sentence structure, this book comes out of broad knowledge and depth of study. It is much needed in an age adrift in a sea of religious confusion and uncertainty. Classical Christian Doctrine may also provide an introductory text for the early period in the history of doctrine.”

In the Shadow of the Temple

History & Biography

“Oskar Skarsaune is surely right on the Jewishness of early Christianity and the importance of the temple for its development. He marshals an accurate display of historical information and exercises sound judgment in weighing probabilities. The result not only establishes the Jewish influences on early Christianity but also presents a persuasive synthesis of key elements in the story of Christian origins.”

Reading the Old Testament with the Ancient Church

Theology

“Ronald Heine brings together two contemporary interests: renewed attention to the Old Testament as Christian Scripture and rediscovery of the church fathers. He offers the reading of the Old Testament with the church fathers as guidance for the contemporary church's use of the whole Bible. The early church's example is a call to do more than understand the text; it is a call to live in and to mold life by the text. I recommend this excellent book to a wide readership.”

Sabbath and Sunday among the Earliest Christians, Second Edition

History & Biography

“David Brattston covers much of the material in several of my writings and reaches the same conclusions. The uniform and overwhelming testimony of early Christian writings is that Christians distinguished the Sabbath from the Lord's day, did not keep the Sabbath as a matter of obligation, and met for worship on the first day of the week (Sunday). Sabbath and Lord's day were two different kinds of days--a day of rest versus a day of Christian assembly.”

The Church according to Paul

Theology

“James Thompson applies his exegetical skill, literary sensitivity, and theological acumen to the topic of Paul and the church. He corrects those who emphasize Paul’s soteriology but neglect his ecclesiology. Thompson sets that ecclesiology in the context of Paul’s theology. Ecclesiology and Christology are thus inseparable.”
