A Peculiar Glory

Christian Living

“With passion, clarity, a believing respect for Scripture, and a burning desire for God’s glory, John Piper has written a robust defense of the complete trustworthiness of Scripture, with debts to Jonathan Edwards and the Westminster Larger Catechism. The language of the book is simple and accessible, but the ideas are deep and its coverage extensive. Scholarship is worn lightly, and the pastoral concern informing the work is pervasively evident. Whether the reader is educationally sophisticated or unsophisticated, the argument is that the peculiar glory of God is on view for all to see, if God gives the grace to do so. I hope this work finds a wide readership.”

Alvin Plantinga and Christian Apologetics

Apologetics

Foreword

“A thorough and insightful analysis and critique.”

Amazing Grace

Theology

“Biblically faithful, historically well informed, and irenic in tone, this wise work from the pen of Timothy George is a sure guide for anyone perplexed about questions of divine sovereignty, grace, and human responsibility. Highly recommended!”

Biblical Spirituality

Theology

“Spirituality is a contemporary buzzword. Surprisingly, even some atheists speak of their spirituality. There is even a book with the title A Little Book of Atheist Spirituality. How important, then, is this book which presents a biblically based, theologically deep, historically informed, and practically helpful Christian examination of spirituality. A galaxy of fine scholars take the reader through the Old and New Testaments, great themes such as holiness, and the heritage of evangelical spirituality, and explore the practical implications of biblical spirituality. A rich feast!”

Ethics and Moral Reasoning

Discipleship & Christian Education

“C. Ben Mitchell has written a concise surefooted guide to ethics and moral reasoning from an evangelical perspective that takes both the Scriptures and the history of ethical discussion seriously. The text is written with admirable clarity and scholarly competence. For Mitchell, the triune God’s divine design for human life is our flourishing as persons who are members of a moral community. This short book contributes to that flourishing, and I commend it enthusiastically.”

Fallen

Theology

“Sin is the great spoiler. It spoils our relation to God, each other, ourselves, and our environment. This important volume shows not only that sin is the great spoiler but also how to understand sin biblically and to face the temptation that comes with it. Without this dark backdrop, the coming and cross of Christ make little sense. A team of excellent scholars has served the church so well in this work. I commend it highly.”

Finding Lost Words

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“This book is a work the church needs. Lament is a missing practice in the praying life of too many Christians in a broken world. It needs to be recovered. After all we find it in psalm after psalm. . . . Scripture not only gives us a language for our joys, it also gives us a language for our confusions, disappointments, and even anger towards God. In this work, a constellation of careful thinkers and practitioners serve us so very well. I commend it without reservation.”

Hearing Her Voice, Revised Edition

Women

“A compelling argument grounded in careful exegesis and evidencing a robust view of biblical authority. Those who already agree with Dickson’s conclusions and those who don’t have much to learn here. I know I did.”

On Being a Christian in the Academy

Philosophy

“Andrew Sloane, with considerable flair, provides the reader with a careful, astute and eminently fair reading of Nicholas Wolterstorff's important contributions to a Christian's epistemology as they bear on being a Christian in the Academy.”

Preaching as the Word of God

Preaching & Worship

Foreword

“With great pleasure I commend Dr. Sam Chan's thesis to you for publication. I was his first reader. His other examiners were Dr. John Feinberg and Dr. Willem VanGemeren. His thesis impressed us all. We were not only unanimous in passing it without reservation but all three of us encouraged him to seek its publication. Dr. Chan astutely draws together Scripture, tradition, and contemporary needs in this work. The thesis serves both the academy and the church. It deserves a wide audience.”

Preaching Hebrews

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Most scholars believe that Hebrews began life as an exhortation preached to a congregation. So who better to engage with it than a very fine preacher and astute theological thinker? In this work Doug Webster provides the reader with a multitude of insights into the text and meaningful, relevant applications to today’s culture and church life.”

Seeking the Welfare of the City

Theology

“Naomi Noguchi Reese has provided in this work a well-organized, deftly written analysis of Colin Gunton’s contribution to public theology. Gunton is one of the most important British theologians of the last century, and this important work is a most worthy systematic engagement with his theology.”

The Doctrine on Which the Church Stands or Falls

Theology

“The Doctrine on Which the Church Stands or Falls is a sterling contribution to a biblically informed, theologically deep, historically sensitive, and pastorally astute engagement with the doctrine of justification by faith alone—sola fide. Controversies past and present relating to the doctrine are deftly explored, whether it is the Council of Trent on view or the New Perspective on Paul or the apocalyptic reading of Paul. An invaluable resource and stimulus to careful thought about a crucial doctrine provided by a galaxy of eminently able scholars.”

The Election of Grace

Theology

“Williams is a first-rate theological thinker, as this work shows. He addresses the riddle of predestination with erudition and humility. . . . The fresh thinking in this volume repays careful reflection.”

The Whole Counsel of God

Church Leadership & Ministry

“Tim Patrick and Andrew Reid have served the church well in this book. Their aim is to encourage and aid pastors in preaching through the whole Bible cover to cover, and to do so in a way that is informed by biblical theology, systematic theology, and the gospel itself. The book is thoughtful and practical, with many helpful diagrams and lists. The authors are rightly concerned about biblical illiteracy in churches. As they point out, even in churches where the Bible is expounded, it can be done in ways that don’t help the person in the pew gain a grasp of the whole counsel of God. This work is a very useful addition to the literature on preaching and one that ably addresses that need.”

Trinitarian Self and Salvation

Theology

“Based on Luke-Acts Scott Harrower has mounted an exegetical challenge to the strict realist reading of Rahner's rule that evangelicals would be foolish to avoid. The biblical accent does not fall on the imitation of the Trinity's inner life but on the imitation of Christ in the economy of salvation. The onus is now on those who champion the rule or something like it in its strict form to meet the challenge.”

Why We Belong

Church Leadership & Ministry

“The gospel brings life, and that life finds expression in a myriad of institutional forms. This important book shows how evangelicalism, with its gospel-centeredness, transcends any particular denominational form and yet links those who share in the new life that Christ brings. More than that, this work offers a positive theology of denominationalism that is simply refreshing.”
