Church Leadership & Ministry

“This book is accessible, engaging, and substantial. Both nonspecialists and readers with theological training will learn from its biblical, historical, and practical reflections on the diaconate, even where they may disagree with some of its conclusions. All readers should emerge from this book with zeal and appreciation for Christ’s great gift of diaconal ministry.”

Living in God's Two Kingdoms

Theology

“The Apostle Peter writes that Christians are God’s own people, sojourners and exiles in this age. What does this calling mean for the way in which believers work in their jobs, raise their families, educate their children, and vote at the polls? In Living in God’s Two Kingdoms, David VanDrunen addresses these questions and more, offering a robust and reasoned alternative to transformationalist understandings of Christianity and culture. Whether or not readers agree with every argument in Living in God’s Two Kingdoms, they will find themselves engaged and challenged to think constructively and biblically about a critical issue in the life of the church. VanDrunen has done a great service to the church in promoting continued reflection on Christianity and culture, and in offering sound practical counsels to Christians eager to serve God in their pilgrimage heavenward.”

Novice Youth Director

Children & Youth

“Youth ministry can be daunting and lonely, especially for those new to it. Temptations and pitfalls abound, even as rich opportunities present themselves to bring the gospel to bear on the lives of young people. In this intensively personal and practical book, L. Seth Duhs offers hard-earned lessons from his experiences in youth ministry. If you are looking to navigate the ins and outs of a church’s youth ministry, Duhs is a sure-footed guide.”

One Assembly

Church Leadership & Ministry

“Many churches take multiple services as a given. Increasingly, churches are embracing multisite models. With the boldness, courage, and zeal of a reformer, Jonathan Leeman invites us to submit our assumptions and practices in ministry to the scrutiny of what the Bible says about the church. Even if you don’t agree with everything that One Assembly concludes about the church, Leeman is surely correct to call the church to build her life, worship, and service upon the foundation of Scripture alone. Let One Assembly provoke you, challenge you, and, above all, drive you to God’s word.”

Perfect Priest for Weary Pilgrims

Theology

“Hebrews is a master class in how to read the Bible. It shows us how all of Scripture points to Christ, explaining what God has done in Christ to save his people. Dennis Johnson is the ideal teacher to help us mine the many riches that God has given us in this ‘word of exhortation.’ Drawing from half a century of deep reflection on the teaching of Hebrews and from decades of pastoral ministry in the church, Johnson is a skilled and experienced guide to this biblical book. He helps us to see from Hebrews the unity of Scripture, the majesty of Christ, and the salvation that is ours in Christ, and he does so in such a way as to lead us to adore and praise our great God. Whether you have never really studied Hebrews or have been poring over Hebrews your whole life, Perfect Priest for Weary Pilgrims will stir you to know better that ‘great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God.’”

Perishable and Imperishable?

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“First Corinthians 3:9–17 is a passage that has long been debated within the history of interpretation. In this fresh and stimulating reading of the text, W. Tyler Sykora explores Greco-Roman and Jewish background to Paul’s construction metaphor. Although not every reader will be persuaded by Sykora’s thesis, every reader will leave Perishable and Imperishable? with fuller appreciation and enriched understanding of Paul’s literary artistry and theological depth.”

Praying Together

Christian Living

“Megan Hill helps us to see, with admirable clarity and practical insight, how the triune God invites believers to gather together in prayer—in the church, in our families, and in a host of other settings. She points us to the rich promises and the remarkable blessings attending corporate prayer in Scripture. Her examples and illustrations stir us to pray with others. Read this book and join the chorus of saints lifting their voices to heaven.”

The Beginning of the Gospel

Theology

“Peter Orr offers a brief, accessible, and insightful survey of the theology of Mark’s Gospel. Orr emphasizes in The Beginning of the Gospel what Mark emphasizes—the gospel of Jesus Christ—and invites readers to see connections between this Gospel and the epistles of the apostle Paul. This book will equip both specialists and general readers to read and reread Mark’s Gospel with deeper understanding and appreciation.”

The Doctrine on Which the Church Stands or Falls

Theology

“The Doctrine on Which the Church Stands or Falls is a robust survey of the doctrine of justification. Assembled is an outstanding team of scholars and pastors whose research and reflection afford rich fare to readers hungering to know more of the grace of justification. Whether you want to know more of the doctrine’s foundations in biblical teaching, the relationship of justification to other theological doctrines, the ways in which the doctrine has been formulated throughout the history of the church, the ancient and modern controversies and disagreements concerning the doctrine, or justification’s implications for Christian life and ministry, you will find yourself informed and challenged by the servings of this volume. The Doctrine on Which the Church Stands or Falls is nothing less than a full-course meal, well served. Bon appétit!”

The Lord's Supper

Theology

“Dr. Kleinig has gifted readers with a winning, accessible, and engaging introduction to the Lord's Supper. Written in the Lutheran tradition for a wide Christian audience, The Lord's Supper helps all readers to see and to relish the gracious Savior to whom the Supper points.”

The Structure of Romans

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Why are there so many rhetorical questions in Romans? Scholars have long puzzled over this feature of the letter, often recognizing its importance but failing to offer a persuasive explanation for it. Paul Fowler makes a convincing case that the preponderance of rhetorical questions in Romans is not incidental to the letter's argument but rather serve to advance it. Fowler furthermore shows that Paul's purposes in adopting this rhetorical strategy are primarily pastoral not polemical in nature. Combining the virtues of accessibility and scholarly integrity, The Structure of Romans is a must-read for anyone who wishes better to understand the structure and coherence of this letter and to grasp some of the momentous issues in the life of this congregation that gripped the mind of the apostle Paul.”

What Is Covenant Theology?

Theology

“Ryan McGraw has given the church a clear, concise, and accessible survey of one of the most important teachings in Scripture—the covenants that God makes with human beings. The argument of What Is Covenant Theology? is exegetically informed, theologically nuanced, and practically oriented. Whether familiar or unfamiliar with covenant theology, readers will profit from the way that McGraw helps us see the unity of the Bible and the glory of the covenant-making, covenant-keeping God of the Bible.”
