C. S. Lewis and the Crisis of a Christian

Christian Living

“Greg Cootsona’s book is as distinctive a contribution to writing on Lewis as any I know. With no claim towards breaking new ground, the author nevertheless brings a perspective so fresh that even a veteran reader of the master will be instructed. Of course, Cootsona know his Lewis, but he also knows Lewis’s philosophy and philosophers, and he so interanimates that knowledge by way of his own extraordinary pastoral (and personal) touch that the reader emerges refreshed. I could argue a point or two, but that would miss the point of this very readable and generous book.”

Past Watchful Dragons

Arts & Literature

“Past Watchful Dragons is a deeply rewarding book. I group it with Clyde Kilby's Christian World of C. S. Lewis and Paul Holmer's C. S. Lewis: The Shape of His Faith and Thought as foundational books which in their economy achieve such richness of insight that they simply command the landscape, defining for readers the very heart, art, and reach of their great subject.”

Splendour in the Dark

Arts & Literature

“Finally, a book that gives Dymer the attention it merits. Just so does Jerry Root—with a mind plentifully furnished in the life and work of the master—convincingly examine story and verse as a touchstone of Lewis's developing genius. Of course, getting the whole poem with David Downing's superb annotations (along with extended commentary by others, as though in conversation) represents enormous value added. Highly recommended.”

The Completion of C. S. Lewis

History & Biography

“This magisterial conclusion to Poe’s three-volume biography of Lewis is dispositive and compelling. Here the reader meets the man, finally: C. S. Lewis in full. Required reading (including the notes!) for anyone interested in the ironies, tribulations, joys, and triumphs of a major figure of twentieth-century world literature.”

The Making of C. S. Lewis

History & Biography

“Detailed and fluent, this second volume of Poe’s trilogy is a triple helix of biography, literary criticism, and spiritual portraiture that will reward any reader, from the generally curious to the experienced Lewis scholar. Poe’s narrative vision of Lewis’s conversion and apologetic commitment, his arguments along the way, and the nuances of his spiritual insights are, respectively, engaging, challenging, and fascinating. Highly recommended.”
