A Curious Faith

Christian Living

“There are two familiar temptations today: to fear questions and to idolize them. Lore Ferguson Wilbert has done neither in this gentle, honest, and wise book. Stepping into the beleaguered shoes of the prophets, the psalmists, and the perplexed disciples, Wilbert invites readers into the human experience of faith. Her words are a salve to those of us who wonder, who wait, who impatiently watch for the One who is—and is yet to come.”

A Non-Anxious Life

Counseling, Grief & Mental Health

“I don't often admit the constancy of anxiety in my life—but with Alan Fadling, I think I could risk the honesty. The wisdom of his deeply personal book A Non-Anxious Life has been gained through gracious movement toward the trustworthy friendship of Jesus. As Fadling reminds us through Scripture and story, in the company of Christ—and with a vision of his sufficiency and care—we need never be afraid. What simple, freeing news that readers will benefit to learn—and practice.”

A Prayer for Orion

Counseling, Grief & Mental Health

“Baldly, bravely, beautifully told, A Prayer for Orion invites readers to see faith in its lived-in condition, how it can traffic in confusion as much as confidence. As Kate James understands from her son's story of addiction, to know God is not to be spared the grief of this broken world. It is, however, to watch hope—as small and inconspicuous as Elijah's cloud—grow heavier with rain. Inviting us to surrender every what if? for the settled peace of even if, this book is for everyone struggling to love someone well.”

A Spacious Life

Christian Living

“In this wonderfully meditative book, author Ashley Hales rescues us from the siren seduction of self-help. Her vision of the spacious life isn't something to chase after but receive. It's a life modeled by Jesus—a sacramental, attentive, inescapably human life. If you're running breathless, A Spacious Life will help you slow down, look up—and breathe.”

All Who Are Weary

Christian Living

“In All Who Are Weary, Sarah Hauser marks a life-giving path toward rest. It's not the way of shallow self-care but the abundant life offered in Jesus Christ. If you are wearied by ordinary days, exhausted by extraordinary suffering, or just tired of your self-focused life, you can linger over the deep and ancient truths of this book—and find renewed hope.”

Barefoot

Fiction

“Whether or not you've been a devoted reader of Sharon Garlough Brown's Sensible Shoes series, you will find yourself in the lives of the four women of Barefoot—in their gratitude and grief, their longings and resilient hopes. Most importantly, you'll meet Jesus, who startles us with this never-ending surprise: we are his beloved.”

Barefoot Study Guide

Bible Studies & Devotionals

“Whether or not you've been a devoted reader of the Sensible Shoes series, you will find yourself in the lives of the four women of Barefoot—in their gratitude and grief, their longings and resilient hopes. Most importantly, you'll meet Jesus, who startles us with this never-ending surprise: we are his beloved.”

Beyond Awkward Side Hugs

Marriage, Family & Relationships

“Beyond Awkward Side Hugs is a deep well of biblical wisdom, and Lea has written with nuance and clarity, humor and grace. Rather than spoon-feed rules, Lea offers a more patient and pastoral approach, helping readers form the skills of discernment. Her practical examples, mined from a life of ministry, are coupled with insightful questions sure to spark animated conversations about sex and dating, marriage and ministry, friendship and singleness. I look forward to being a student of Lea’s teaching and writing in the years to come.”

Carved in Ebony

Children & Youth

“I can recommend Carved in Ebony for so many reasons: its serious historical research, its vivid writing, its unflagging commitment to the Gospel, its challenge to lasting racial prejudice. But let me say it most plainly. The stories of these ten Black women inspire faithfulness faithfulness and courage. They offer a glimpse of what God can do when we surrender ourselves to him.”

Come Away and Rest

Prayer & Spiritual Formation

“Alyson Pryor's guide to personal retreat is an urgently needed resource to gently guide us into Jesus' habit of coming away to be with his Father. Weaning us from our need to perform and produce, even in our spiritual lives, Pryor provides practical support for meeting with God in seasons of exhaustion, uncertainty, and grief. I will treasure this guide for myself and highly recommend it to others!”

Comfort Detox

Christian Living

“Our obsessive pursuit of comfort may be the most acute and least diagnosed malady of North American Christianity. In Comfort Detox, Erin Straza helps readers imagine something more glorious—if also riskier—than a life insulated from interruption, inconvenience, and even anguish. I am grateful for her invitation to keep company with Jesus—and keep watch with a sorrowing world.”

Finding Holy in the Suburbs

Christian Living

“Ashley Hales stands in the bold tradition of the ancient prophets. In her book Finding Holy in the Suburbs, she exposes the tinseled temptations of the suburbs and calls us to Christ and his ways of generous self-sacrifice. The book’s vivid storytelling, biblical reflections, unabashed truth telling, and practical applications make it a worthy read for anyone no matter where they live.”

Fractured Faith

Apologetics

“Lina AbuJamra has written bravely and hopefully in this book. As she's rehearsed betrayals, disappointments, doubts, even her own sin, she's asked a painfully familiar question: Where is God when the lights go out? Retracing a large swath of the biblical story, Lina reminds her readers that God uses every wound, every wilderness, for good.”

God's Grace for Every Family

Marriage, Family & Relationships

“Beginning God’s Grace for Every Family, I immediately identified those who would benefit from reading it: my recently divorced neighbor, my recently widowed friend. When I finished this book, however, I’d gained a much deeper appreciation for the gospel and the comfort it offers to all kinds of readers. Through stories of single parents, Harris helps us trust God’s plentiful provision and presence in seasons of need. Moreover, she inspires and instructs the church to act as God’s hands and feet. Biblically faithful, intensely practical, and personally vulnerable, God’s Grace for Every Family is a book I heartily recommend.”

Grieving a Suicide

Counseling, Grief & Mental Health

“Having lost my brother to suicide, I am often asked by other survivors for recommendations of helpful resources. Al Hsu's Grieving a Suicide will now be the first I recommend. It is comprehensive without being clinical, practical without offering easy answers. And while Hsu's book is tremendously hopeful, it does not flinch at this bald fact: suicide is turmoil and trauma.”

Keys to Bonhoeffer's Haus

History & Biography

“To enter into Bonhoeffer's Haus, with Laura Fabrycky as an able and articulate guide, is to fire the moral imagination and to kindle important civic questions. Importantly, Fabrycky rescues Bonhoeffer from hagiography, and her own hausfrau -life insists that faithfulness is often modest in the making, accumulated by small gestures in the course of our ordinary days. For these politically turbulent times, Fabrycky's work is probing and urgent, rousing us to inventory our civic responsibilities--and care.”

Mapping Church Missions

Evangelism & Missions

“'Love thy neighbor,' while a simple command, is complicated work. Just who do we love? And how exactly? With her vast experience in church missions, Sharon Hoover ably identifies the essential questions of the missions conversation, helping individuals and churches to clarify their unique values and resources, desires and opportunities. This book will do as much good in the world as those it sends out.”

Mentor for Life

Discipleship & Christian Education

“Thick with biblical and practical wisdom, Mentor for Life will prove to be a helpful resource for those wanting to begin or improve the discipleship initiatives of their local church. But one danger will always remain: Will we, as Robinson warns, crowd our lives with lesser things?”

Mother to Son

Christian Living

“What a privilege to sit at the feet of Jasmine Holmes in these pages. In order to navigate her way through one of the thorniest conversations today—race in America—Holmes has relied on biblical wisdom to convey hard-yet-hopeful truths to her son. So much is yet to be done to repair the sins of the past; so much is still possible through the church of Jesus Christ, who carried our burdens and become the way of reconciliation.”

Not From Around Here

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“To read Not from Around Here is to be reminded of the importance of good stories, which traffic in the concrete rather than the abstract. Having lived most of the diverse geographical places O'Brien has lived, I might not have thought I needed these stories. Turns out, I did. I needed O'Brien's clarion call to remember that my primary identity is not now as a resident of North America's fourth-largest city. I'm a Christian before an urbanite, and my brothers and sisters in hollers and small-towns and suburban tract neighborhoods have much to teach me. This book was a pleasure to read and will be an honor to recommend.”
