Theology
“Witty, winsome, and creative, Lyonhart sets the table for a delightful Christmas Eve conversation concerning the enigma of the Trinity. Embodied in the style of Hume’s Dialogues concerning Natural Religion, this philosophical conversation draws on contemporary connections that are entertaining and thought provoking. This book is an innovative bridge to complex themes for students, pastors, and professors of theology and philosophy.”
Theology
“J. D. Lyonhart continues to bring his wit, vulnerability, and sharp theological mind to his latest book, The Journey of God. This journey is an invitation to enter a story, a story of being lost and finding home in the Christian story. Dialogue partners from all disciplines abound (e.g., philosophy, science, theology, and modern film) to instruct and inspire you. Prepare to be captivated, encouraged, and to laugh out loud!”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“With wit, creativity, and accessibility, Yinger paints a renewed portrait of the Pharisees that provides a much-needed corrective to deeply ingrained common mischaracterizations. Yinger’s expertise as teacher is evident in the design of this volume. I look forward to recommending this exceptional resource to all students of the Bible!”
The Ten Commandments through the Ages
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“In this tour de force, Koenig offers a close reading of the Ten Commandments and surveys their reception and interpretation across history. This book is an essential and timely resource for those interested in the complex nature of the commandments’ reception along with their value for modern readers today.”
Discipleship & Christian Education
“In Unscripted Spirituality, Dr. Luisa Gallagher-Stevens—an attentive pastor, scholar, and spiritual companion—presents a fresh and innovative approach to the needs of emerging adults in the changing landscape of higher education. Gallagher-Stevens presents an integrative and holistic Wesleyan-Ignatian model to the field of spiritual formation and leadership. This book is a timely resource for those investing in the spiritual formation of students in this complex dialogue of transformative spiritual growth and relational leadership.”
Theology
“This book is an extraordinary invitation to engage (and perhaps wrestle!) with thinking theologically in deeply formative ways. Timothy Gaines proves to be an excellent guide, bringing into conversation important biblical figures, key theologians(such as Augustine, Barth, and Jennings), and his own reflections. This bridge of theological method and virtue formation takes seriously the task of spiritual formation for the reader, demonstrating how thinking theologically through story continues to be transformative, complex, embodied, and dynamic. Engaging and beautifully accessible, this work is a gift for both the academy and the church.”
Wisdom from the Witch of Endor
Christian Living
“Tikva Frymer-Kensky inspires and encourages her readers in this creative and timely case study of an oft-forgotten and controversial woman, the witch of Endor (mistress of an ’ob). In this small powerhouse book (small like the Prayer of Jabez book [2000], which it is in part a response to), Tikva weaves together wisdom from exegetical insights and personal reflections in the style of midrash. This delightful and unexpected gift allows us to hear her (much missed!) voice and passion, raising awareness once again for the complex, marginalized, and inspiring women of the Bible.”
Fiction
“Lyonhart invites readers into a deeper, more expansive engagement with some of humanity’s most profound philosophical and theological questions. By placing Moses in lively dialogue with later Greek mythological traditions and modern scientific theories, he constructs a kind of contemporary philosophical midrash—creative, daring, and thoughtfully constructed. A delightful intellectual thought experiment that will leave readers captivated. An exhilarating read!”
