“Throughout my years of teaching, I have learned to look to Frank Matera as a sure guide to the thought of Paul. His commentaries on Paul's various epistles are sterling examples of profound thought expressed with clarity and simplicity. This new distillation of Matera's thought on Paul is to be welcomed by all teachers of the New Testament.”
Introduction to the Synoptic Gospels

“Pheme Perkins has dedicated her career to communicating her professional expertise in both the New Testament and the Gnostic Gospels to her students in the classroom and to a wider audience of interested clergy and educated laity. Now she distills both her vast knowledge and her teaching skills in this book on the Synoptic Gospels. But the scope of this volume is much broader than the standard introduction to the Synoptics. Perkins situates the Synoptics within the wider contexts of the composition and function of books in the ancient Greco-Roman world, the development of the idea of a New Testament canon, and the continuation of the Gospel genre in the Gospels of the second and third centuries. College and university professors will welcome this volume as a valuable teaching tool.”
“Fr. James Martin, chaplain to the Colbert nation, uses the geography of the Holy Land to map out the separate plots of earth called historical Jesus, christology, and personal (as well as ecclesial) spirituality. Every reader will enjoy the journey through this triple territory with such an insightful companion.”

Jesus and Judaism is a milestone study."--Paula FredriksenThe New Republic"The greatest value of Jesus and Judaism is that it embodies a generation's desire to avoid exaggerations from right or left, to stop portraying Jesus as a predecessor of Martin Heidegger or Nicaragua's President, Daniel Ortega, and to try to understand what he meant to say and accomplish.”

“For decades James D. G. Dunn has been a leader in serious and balanced study of both christology and history-of-Jesus research. I have profited greatly from his many books and articles, and I am delighted to read this massive distillation of his many years of reflection and publication on the historical Jesus. I highly recommend Jesus Remembered to all those interested in a thoughtful and methodologically sophisticated approach to the major questions that plague and stimulate historical-Jesus research today.”
