A Future for the Latino Church

Church Leadership & Ministry

“Daniel Rodriguez challenges us to recognize the increasing diversity of the Latino community and to develop ministries that reach out across that diversity. He also provides examples of churches that are developing models to respond to that challenge. Latino churches have an important future in the United States. Rodriguez helps us understand an important part of that future.”

At Home in Exile

History & Biography

“An important biblical theme is that God speaks to His people while they are in movement, migrating or in exile. Russell Jeung invites us to recognize that we learn about God and about what God is doing when we live into our own experience of exile and choose to live and minister among migrants and exiles. At Home in Exile is autobiography, theology, and missiology. This book challenges us to see that exile is a unique place to serve God and to learn about how God is at work in the world.”

Naked Surrender

Counseling, Grief & Mental Health

“We live in the midst of an oversexed society where sexual ethics are often defined by narcissism and a worship of 'sexual freedom.' Naked Surrender invites us to recognize that our sexual identity finds its fulfillment as we submit to the lordship of Jesus Christ. Andrew Comiskey uses concrete examples to challenge us to understand the complexities of sexual brokenness and to develop communities of mutual support so that we can develop healthy relationships that help us become who God created us to be. Through repentance, prayer and mutual support the author shows us how real people have found sexual wholeness in Jesus Christ.”

Paradigms of the Church in Mission

History & Biography

“Rodriguez places the New Apostolic movement within the framework of church history, envisioning it as a new paradigm, a new way of thinking about the church in mission. He provides a sympathetic perspective on the movement, using leaders and other insiders as his principal sources.”

The Mestizo Augustine

History & Biography

“Justo González provides us with a unique and compelling retelling of the life of Augustine. He focuses on the mestizajes of Augustine's life to show us that his rich theology was born at the crossroads of peoples, languages, cultures, ethnicities, and social change. It is here that we encounter the deepest tensions of human existence but also where we can reflect most deeply on our understanding of God and our relationships with each other. We can thank González for reminding us through the life of Augustine that the mestizajes that we try to forestall or even deny 'may well be a sign of the future from which God is calling us.'”

The Mestizo/a Community of the Spirit

Theology

“Garcia-Johnson challenges the Latino/a church to become a mestizo/a community of manana by allowing the Spirit to guide it within the complexity, unpredictability, and randomness that is Latino culture in a postmodern world. He presents a contextualized Latino/a theology that recognizes the importance of the Holy Spirit in the community that believes in God's future. I am grateful to him for showing us how Latino/a churches can be committed communities of survival, hope, and belief.”

The Practices of Christian Preaching

Church Leadership & Ministry

“In the midst of all the changes to communication styles in a technological world, our vocation has not changed. We are to preach the Christian message with conviction, clarity, creativity, in context, and geared to concrete situations. Alcántara urges us in a straightforward way not to forget the roots of our calling. But he also keeps us connected to the transcultural and multilingual realities many of us face as we seek to be faithful preachers. ¡Gracias, hermano!”

Transforming Pastoral Leadership

Church Leadership & Ministry

“Kinnison invites to use the biblical metaphor of pastor to help us envision a new way of thinking about pastoral ministry in this postmodern world. This book is an excellent tool for those who want to think about pastoral leadership in a way that is biblically framed and geared toward our rapidly changing world.”
