Introduction to Christian Theology
Theology
“Bradley Hanson's work wears its learning lightly and its faith openly. Clearly, indeed, crisply written, Introduction to Christian Theology should find wide ecumenical acceptance among undergraduate teachers and their students. It would also be an excellent first text for those embarking on the study of theology in adult education settings.”
Prayer & Spiritual Formation
“Chris Anderson offers us a triune gift wrapped into a whole: beautiful prose, pastoral experience, and an authentic believing eye turned to our world. This volume is a grace to be received with abundant thanks.”
Preaching & Worship
“This readable emolument is a timely reminder of how Merton was shaped by the liturgical year and his own immersion in the monastic offices. It is wonderful to have it available to a new audience.”
“An important critical, readable, eye-opening work.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“Thompson's long engagement with the theological significance of technology bears fruit once again with this careful analysis of the mature writings of Thomas Merton, who saw with his keen, contemplative eye the dangers of a technology that masters human dignity and freedom. This work should be of intense interest to all readers who are interested in the human condition as they engage the work of Merton, one of the great spiritual masters of our time.”
Theology
“This carefully researched and clearly written book ably shows the saints to be timeless and timely. . . . A valuable resource for theological reflection.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“This rich ecumenical study of the biblical and ecclesial foundations of peace will serve all who wish to advance peace in a world that so desperately needs it. I was much instructed (and edified) by the careful work of the contributors. This book repays careful study.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This intelligently presented volume is a model not only in its choice of texts but also for its readable (and learned) introductions and notes. The keen interest in Romans over the centuries explains why Paul’s letter is a classic: it provides a surplus of meaning both in the past and in the present day.”
“I have never fully understood those transcendent moments when I have observed very young children at play, mine especially, with a sense of awe too deep for words. Martin Marty helps me give voice to those experiences as an in-breaking of grace. An extended meditation on the sheer gift of children in our midst, this beautifully rendered book makes clear the deep truth of Gabriel Marcel's assertion that life is not a problem to be solved but a mystery to be lived”
History & Biography
“The Solitary Explorer is a very clear exposition of Merton's thought and is free of breathless adulation. This is not hagiography; it is a critical work in the best sense of the term. Includes as good a balanced judgment of Merton as I have seen.”
