Rethinking the Filioque with the Greek Fathers

Theology

“After decades of ecumenical discussion, the topic of the Filioque remains a continuing source of disagreement. The best way forward is to take a step back, breathe deeply, and return to our common sources in the Patristic period. When we do so with a willingness to see the particular questions that shaped those writers, new options open before us. It is just such a journey that Maspero leads us; he is always attentive to modern debates, but ever drawing us back to the best of starting points. This text is a very welcome addition to the literature on this complex topic and can only serve to aid the dialogue between East and West.”

Retrieving Nicaea

Theology

“Khaled Anatolios's new book is a welcome addition to the flood of revisionary scholarship on patristic trinitarian theology in the last twenty years. Anatolios's treatment helps us to see the perennial importance of the key figures of the fourth and fifth centuries for all of our thought on this central mystery of the Christian faith. The clarity of his exposition and his constant desire to draw out the consequences of historical exposition mean that this book will find a treasured place on the bookshelves of theologians and theology students across the board.”

Simply Trinity

Christian Living

“Matthew Barrett’s book is perfect for students of theology in the evangelical tradition. In clear and readable chapters Barrett draws his readers to appreciate classical trinitarian theology as the foundation of biblical faith. Readers are led away from the rocks of those who have sought to convince us that such theology needs radical change, and into the calm, wide sea that is the Christian community’s historic faith.”

The Penumbra of Ethics

Philosophy

“Vigo Demant is a figure undeservedly forgotten in current theology—despite his subterranean influence. Markham and Faulstich have done us all a great service in making available Demant’s unpublished Gifford Lectures. The extensive introduction should make a new generation of theologians turn again to this important witness to the vibrant debates in British theological ethics during the latter half of the twentieth century.”

The Theology of Augustine

Theology

“Matthew Levering introduces Augustine through seven of his most important texts--a wonderful idea. Augustine shines out as one whose theology focuses on the central mystery of the Christian faith, God's gracious drawing of humanity into the divine life through the work of the incarnate Word and the life-giving Spirit. Levering's treatment beautifully complements existing introductions, providing a guide that should aid generations of students and inspire the interested lay reader.”

Why I Am Roman Catholic

Theology

“One of the most important things about this wonderful book is the relationship between Levering's honest and direct description of his own inner faith and the extensive footnotes that reference writers from throughout the Christian tradition and across the Christian world. Levering shows how much his famous work as a theologian is most certainly a gift to the church but also reflects the rich inner life of one who searches for and looks toward his Lord.”
