A Church Undone

History & Biography

“Our temptation for seven decades has been to seek out and describe Christians in Germany who opposed the Nazi regime. The publication of these documents provides a very welcome corrective. It is not just that Christians in Nazi Germany lacked the courage to oppose Hitler. Too many also misconstrued what we would like to consider the appropriate Christian stance.” —Robert P. Ericksen Pacific Lutheran University “Solberg’s book is a tremendous contribution both to scholars of German Christian church life and to all who care about the uses and misuses of Christian theology. These previously untranslated primary documents provide clear-eyed, chilling witness to the development of Nazi-inflected thinking among theologians and pastors. A remarkable and indispensable volume.”

A New Old Spirituality?

Church Leadership & Ministry

“Kaufman’s research provides a watershed contribution: the first-ever in-depth exploration of lived Protestant clergy spirituality and a pioneering instance of ethnographic methodology in the study of Christian spirituality.”

Becoming Simple and Wise

Theology

“Bonhoeffer's theology, spirituality, and ethics center in discernment, the risky and exhilarating practice of openness to the will of God. Yet until now no full-length study has actually explored the place and shape of discernment for Bonhoeffer. Kaiser's compelling new book does precisely this, revealing the prayerful polyphony at the heart of Bonhoeffer's witness. A groundbreaking scholarly contribution.”

Holy Conversation

Preaching & Worship

“The heart of any authentic Christian spirituality is the church's liturgical life, the feast of Word and Sacrament. Linman opens the contemplative experience of liturgical worship in new and deeply faithful ways, inviting an encompassing, personal 'holy conversation' with the One who is life for the world. A great gift.”

Radical Kinship

Prayer & Spiritual Formation

“Praise for Radical Kinship Rewilding Christian spirituality: what does this mean? Rachel Wheeler’s new book invites us deeply into this question and into the radical kinship of our broadest creaturely relations—precisely at (and as) the center of Christian life. This book’s stretch between wide-ranging scholarly engagement and embodied outdoor practices opens a spirituality that reroots us in the life of the world itself. It could not be more timely, more important, more generative.”

Spirit and Nature

Prayer & Spiritual Formation

“"What does the discipline of Christian spirituality contribute to twenty-first-century urgency toward sustaining the life of the earth? From a rereading of the Bible and retrieval of resources in Christian history, to engagement with contemporary scientists, writers, artists, and activists, this volume's essays stretch readers into transformative new engagement with the tradition, in love of the earth.”
