Jesus in Galilee

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Applying the tools of risk assessment and sociological analysis, Roger Busse elucidates the power relations between various groups—including supernatural actors—in the time of Jesus. This rich perspective provides many insights into the life and sayings of Jesus and his followers. A valuable contribution to historical Jesus studies.”

The Blessing and the Curse

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Jeff Anderson is a wise and even-handed guide into the richness of the Old Testament theological traditions. Using what might seem like contradictory categories of blessing and curse, he leads the reader on a sweeping tour of Old Testament claims about God's relations with humanity. The book is explicitly Christian without being sectarian. It represents the fruits of many years of pastoral and scholarly service to the church.”

The Enemies of Paul: Demons, Satan, Betrayers, and Apostles

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“It happens rarely that someone who is well educated in a completely different field makes a serious effort to engage in Bible scholarship from the perspective of one’s own discipline. Extending his use of risk assessment methods to the historical Jesus in his previous book, Busse now applies them to the problem of understanding Paul and his enemies. Offering a rich, textured reading of the historical Paul in his first century background, Busse succeeds in presenting Paul and the early church in their complexity.”
