Mervyn Himbury: Principal and Preacher

History & Biography

“In his finely researched biography, Rees sheds light on a complex character, D. Mervyn Himbury. Rees expertly sketches the diverse forces that shaped Himbury and deals sympathetically but not uncritically with his subject’s passions, struggles, and faith. This book is not just for Baptists (that curious breed emerging in tumultuous seventeenth-century Europe) but for anyone who steps into the unknown in response to a persistent ‘inner call.’”

Seizing Opportunities

History & Biography

“Rebecca Hilton has lifted the lid on the extraordinary, previously untold story of Australian Baptist women’s work in the first half of the twentieth century. Undervalued and under-reported, women were forced to take the ‘winding’ path to fulfil their divine calling in a patriarchal institution. Their contribution to the growth of the Australian Baptist denomination was second to none. The research that underpins this challenging and elegant book is impressive.”
