Bearing Witness in Acts and Today
Bible Studies & Devotionals
“A well-informed Bible scholar is a valuable guide for anyone eager to explore the ways ancient churches bear witness to Jesus Christ in the book of Acts. But you’re going to want a sensitive and experienced pastor on hand to help you grasp how the most engaging stories in Acts might inspire churches’ outreach today. Good thing Troy Troftgruben is both. His book combines his interpretive insight with his hunger for compassionate communities.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Christine Aarflot’s thoughtful analysis brings much-needed clarity to the challenges that beset scholars’ attempts to describe the theology of Acts. It makes a valuable case for considering Lukan Christology and theology hand in hand, and for grasping the ambiguities of the narrative’s theological rhetoric not as obstacles to understanding the theology of Acts but as a means of doing so.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“As cultural change, shifting demographics, and dire predictions make churches worry they aren't measuring up, we should ask: measuring up to what? Churchgoers need to learn about their past so they won't venture into their future fearfully or foolishly. Troftgruben's guidance and insights are sure to generate lively conversations in congregations.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This is a splendid, accessible survey of how scholarship illuminates the Bible. It’s also an impassioned appeal, urging anyone who reads and interprets Scripture to expand their perspectives, examine their presuppositions, and learn from others. No matter who you are, whether you’ve never consulted a footnote in a study Bible or you’ve earned a degree in biblical studies, you’re going to learn something new and useful here.”
