Mel Oquendo is an ordained minister and chaplain, and has served as an adjunct professor. Oquendo previously pastored. Oquendo earned a B.S. in Ministerial Leadership from Southeastern University, followed by a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching and Leading from Asbury Theological Seminary. Oquendo wrote Seeing God Through the Tears (2025).
