Jesus' Blood and Righteousness
Theology
“Integral to the Pauline understanding of salvation is the idea of imputation. Vickers clearly demonstrates how it fits within the contours of Pauline theology and masterfully exegetes the pertinent texts on which the doctrine is founded. Highly recommended!”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“It has been rightly said that the history of the church is the story of the church’s interaction with the Bible, and one of the most influential figures in this story was the New England divine Jonathan Edwards. In recent years, his role in the reception history of the Scriptures has proven to be an especially fruitful subject of historical enquiry. This new monograph on his reflections on the book of Genesis continues and sharpens this inquiry, and reveals the way that Edwards was both a faithful transmitter of previous exegesis and a pioneer in new paths of thinking.”
Theology
“The relationship between the covenants of Scripture is rightly considered to be central to the interpretation of the Bible. That there is some degree of continuity is obvious for it is the same God—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as well as the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ—who has revealed himself and his will in the covenants. That there is, however, also significant discontinuity also seems patent since Scripture itself talks about a new covenant and the old one passing away. What has changed, and what has not? Utterly vital questions to which this book by Gentry and Wellum give satisfying and sound answers. Because of the importance of this subject and the exegetical and theological skill of the authors, their answers deserve a wide hearing. Highly recommended!”

“I have long considered D. A. Carson and John Woodbridge among the finest evangelical scholars of our generation. Their areas of specialty, of course, differ—Carson has excelled as an expert in New Testament scholarship while Woodbridge has made his life’s work the exposition of church history and Christian thought down through the centuries. This small volume, cast in the form of letters from an older Christian to a younger believer, distills the wisdom of both men in these two vital areas of Christian scholarship, but also captures the essence of sapience that can only be found in what has been described as a ‘long obedience in the same direction.’ I am thrilled that it is being republished afresh for the spiritual and theological undergirding of a new generation of Christians, for the wisdom here is much needed in these troubling times.”
Christian Living
“Primers like this—a trenchant reminder of the vital matters that lie at the heart of the Christian faith—are ever needful, and especially so in this theologically befuddled generation that is far too often heedless of the value of the past. Highly recommended!”
“Stephen Yuille, a wise guide to the Puritans and their texts, has made available spiritual gems from two largely forgotten Baptists: Thomas Wilcox and Vavasor Powell. A few of their works have been prized as classical statements of Puritan piety down through the years, and I am excited to recommend them to a new generation of readers. Read and be strengthened in our most precious faith!”

“It is no easy task to write a small volume summing up the theology and significance for the Christian life of Martin Luther. Yet Trueman has done it superbly with aplomb and verve. Highly recommended as an excellent introduction to a remarkable Christian and human being.”
History & Biography
“There have been more books written about Martin Luther than any other figure in the last millennium of church history. With such a Luther-glutted market, what more could possibly be said about him? Well, this latest volume from the hand of the gifted Reformation scholar Herman Selderhuis does indeed give us a fresh perspective on the German reformer. With his own translations of Luther’s writings and his comprehensive knowledge of Luther’s world, both theological and social, this new biography is both deeply instructive about the things that mattered most to Luther and a delight to read. This is how biography should be written!”
Martin Luther and the Rule of Faith
Theology
“Church history, it has been said, is basically one long interaction of the church with the Bible. If so, the bold, and at times brash words of the sixteenth-century German Reformer Martin Luther have been undoubtedly one of the major voices in this unique colloquy. In this brilliant new study, Todd Hains delineates the various ways that Luther spoke into this centuries-long ecclesial conversazione. His study reveals that the German author, in his use of the rule of faith as an interpretative key, had far more in common with preceding voices and echoes than is usually imagined. He was a truly a Catholic exegete. An important monograph.”
History & Biography
“Having studied the life and thought of the monk Basil of Caesarea intensely and having traveled to Iona and Lindisfarne, two key Celtic monastic settlements, this book struck a responsive key with me. One need not agree with all that monasticism stood for to appreciate elements of the piety and theology of these remarkable 'missionary monks' as Smither describes them. A much-needed history that fills a great lacuna.”

“Best known for the iconic hymn ‘Amazing Grace,’ John Newton deserves to be equally known for his tremendous corpus of spiritual letters. In them, Newton’s gifting as a pastoral cardiologist with few peers is on full display. Many of the main struggles and joys of the human heart have not changed. And, as Reinke ably shows, Newton’s advice, given in a world somewhat different from ours, is still potent and relevant. Very highly recommended.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Papias is a significant link between the apostolic generation and the second century, and he rightly merits more attention than he has received. In this fine study of his writings and what can be known about Papias' life from them and other early Christian records, Shanks does such an excellent job of synthesizing this material that we feel Papias has emerged somewhat from the shadows of history that have hitherto enveloped him.”
Theology
“Martin Luther's career as a Reformer has often overshadowed his incisive work as a biblical theologian. This fresh study of his sermons on 1 Peter by Professor Ngien helps to correct that and reveals Luther the exegete at his best. In short, this is a superb examination of Luther's evangelical reflection on the Petrine text.”
Paul’s Spirituality in Galatians
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Contrary to the thinking of Western culture in general, spirituality is not merely a human achievement. First and foremost, true spirituality comes from God and is given shape and substance by God's witness to himself in the Scriptures. Beginning with this vital principle, this new work by McClendon dismantles a number of contemporary models of spirituality in order to build one rooted in the thought of Paul as it appears in the New Testament, and especially, in his letter to the Galatians. An extremely helpful and engaging study.”
Church Leadership & Ministry
“It is a commonplace that prayer is possibly the most difficult discipline of the Christian life for a pastor to maintain. Busyness of ministry, the hurry-scurry of our culture, the inundation of social media, along with our Enemy’s recognition of the vital place that prayer occupies in the advance of the kingdom of the Lord Jesus, make any sincere attempt at being a prayerful pastor a battleground. This book, because it is so grounded in the Scriptures and the experience of the pastorate, is therefore welcome. Like a desert traveler coming upon a well-placed spring of water, drink in the wealth of timely insight and wisdom here!”
“Contemporary Evangelicalism has few substantial resources when it comes to reflection on what the Scriptures and Christian history have thought and said about death. While the subject of human embodiment has soared in the charts, as it were, of Christian thought, the dissolution of that embodiment has been sorely neglected. Toby Jennings' penetrating study of death helps to fill this significant lacuna. Highly recommended!”
History & Biography
“[H]ere we are reminded of the importance of this great biblical theme of the fear of the Lord. And once again, past wisdom proves richly instructive for present church life.”
