Authentic Human Sexuality

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“Authentic Human Sexuality is by far the best book I've read on this topic in decades. Seminary educators at the forefront of marriage and family research, Jack Balswick and Judy Balswick bring decades of social science and biblical wisdom to their analysis of today's sexual norms. Exploring a wide range of contemporary issues—including sexual orientation and gay marriage, singlehood, cohabitation, marriage, and divorce—the Balswicks evaluate each according to its impact on human flourishing, especially concerning children. Their content on sexual harassment, porn, and abuse is indispensable. Significantly, Authentic Human Sexuality also offers a robust critique of male dominance and its affront to human flourishing and authentic human sexuality. Whether pastors, students, or just life-long learners, readers will value this careful review of the ethical and spiritual issues Christians face in discerning the meaning of authentic human sexuality and how it shapes our communities.”

Black and White Bible, Black and Blue Wife

Counseling, Grief & Mental Health

“Ruth Tucker’s historical and biblical scholarship has informed my own journey and that of countless egalitarians. In this book, however, her pedagogy is a story of abuse—her own. It is as powerful as it is personal, exposing the perils of a patriarchal reading of Scripture. Because Ruth’s experiences are all too common, Black and White Bible, Black and Blue Wife is essential reading for pastors, seminarians, counselors, NGO workers, and indeed anyone who believes God speaks to us from the pages of Scripture.”

Global leaders continue to explore the impact of egalitarian leadership, marriages, businesses, and humanitarian endeavors. The editors of this volume have given us a vital resource—wisdom from leaders who have journeyed long as Christian egalitarians in all aspects of life. We thank you!”

Excavating Women

History & Biography

“Exquisitely researched and thoroughly reasoned, Excavating Women examines markers used to honor women leaders in ancient artwork. After women converted to Christianity, their leadership as deacons, priests, elders, and bishops reflects the same archaeological symbols. The parallels are impossible to miss! From the Christian catacombs to early church mosaics, women leaders were stunningly prominent--a reality now impossible to ignore.”

Scars Across Humanity

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“Scars Across Humanity fearlessly and meticulously documents the largest ongoing carnage in history: gendercide and violence against women. Elaine Storkey demonstrates that this global violence against girls and women is rooted in male supremacy and dominance, which is fueled by religious traditions, including Christianity. Exposing patriarchy as a sin that devastates the entire human family, the book also unmasks how the church has distorted Scripture throughout history to devalue and marginalize girls and women, placing them at risk for abuse. Scars Across Humanity is crucial for everyone who is passionate about the gospel, gender justice, and reconciliation within the church and beyond.”

Tell Her Story

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“At last, an analysis that gives thorough attention to Scripture's context, culture, and history! Nijay Gupta's Tell Her Story unearths the stunning leadership of biblical women and their allies. It may be the final nail in the coffin of Christian patriarchy.”

The Bible vs. Biblical Womanhood

Theology

“A glorious blend of biblical history and theological analysis, Payne systematically dismantles the logical failures used to distort God’s Word intended for human flourishing. This book will bring enormous healing to the body of Christ. If you need a book that quickly and clearly exposes the failed teachings of male-headship arguments, The Bible vs. Biblical Womanhood is it! Respected by Christians the world over, Phil Payne’s research opens new doors of leadership for women.”

The Book of Womanhood

Women

“Expecting to be married with children in her twenties, life unfolded in unanticipated ways for Amy Davis Abdallah. These became opportunities to journey with God toward self-discovering and empowerment. This book builds wholeness in all its relationships. For these reasons, The Book of Womanhood is hard to put it down!”

The Concept of Woman

Theology

“Sister Prudence Allen has done it! She sets before us a sweeping, philosophical analysis of woman’s identity, value, and purpose as it developed across history and disciplines. Readers will delight in her finale: God’s great gift of male-female partnerships established not through fractured identities, or through gender superiority, but by an integral gender complementarity of body, spirit, and will—the basis of flourishing human communities. A magisterial achievement, pulsating with wisdom and humility, The Concept of Woman is needed now more than ever.”

The Father and the Feminine

Theology

“Precise and thorough, Spencer Boersma’s exploration of gendered language for God is a healing, soul-enriching vision of women and men’s oneness in Christ. The time for this book is now!”

The Headship of Men and the Abuse of Women

Counseling, Grief & Mental Health

“A nation, church, and family can be measured by its treatment of women. Despite gains made worldwide, women still encounter tragic levels of abuse even in Christian communities. With a long history of advancing the biblical basis for women’s equal leadership, Kevin Giles turns his incisive mind to the #MeToo and #ChurchToo crisis. Given that more than 80 percent of the world follow a faith tradition—most of which support male-authority, Giles critiques those with the greatest influence—male religious leaders. Those who speak for God require the greatest accountability. It is to them that this book is addressed. It is to all of us, that this book informs.”
