A Biblical Study Guide for Equal Pulpits

Women

“I am very grateful for A Biblical Study Guide for Equal Pulpits. This collective work by respected practitioner scholars of the Asian American and Latina communities samples homiletics, biblical exegesis, and pulpit ministry otherwise. . . . It helps us reposition our biblical readings in the ultimate reality of an equitable God, as supposed to binaries designed to support a hierarchical Eurocentric pulpit.”

Abuelita Faith

Christian Living

“Abuelita Faith does something few writings are able to do. It gives us back our memories of God in the places that matter the most: our homes and bodies. Thinking, sensing, doing, and loving in the name of God have become white, male, rational, normative operations in the Western space. But Armas has found God operating powerfully in the underside of academia, the church, and the city—that is, at home, through the wisdom and practice of mujeres luchadoras (women in the struggle) and life givers, true teachers of the Spirit. Armas combines the best of postcolonial theories with biblically informed and ethically reconstructive approaches to everyday life. A must-read for those of us wishing for a different way of doing theology and faith.”

Abuelita fe

Christian Living

Brown Church

History & Biography

“Brown is the color of the blood of slathered communities for five hundred years crying to God from the lands of the Americas (Gen 4:10). It is the color that symbolizes both the pride and oppression of those sacrificed to the voracity of colonialmodernity, depredatory capitalism, and civilizing Christian missions. But Brown Church is also an embedded witnessing to Jesús of Aztlán, walked in pain and hope by border communities in the power of the decolonial Spirit outside the gate. Brown Church showcases recovered history of Christian activism, uncovered human dignity, and above all, the ecclesial imagination called home by a Latinx generation of Christians that for too long have lived stripped of their own faith andsense of mission as decolonial justice. Readable, well documented, passionately evangélico, Robert Chao Romero's work may very well be his new manual of 'church for revolutionaries.'”

Engaging Latino/a/x Theologies

Theology

“Sharon Heaney skillfully captures a family portrait that radiates with a vibrant diversity of unique knowledge bases. . . . This book serves as a poignant reminder of the wonderful cloud of Latino/a/x Christian witnesses that envelop and inspire us.”

In Search of Christ in Latin America

Theology

“Where do we begin the task of elaborating an Original Latin American Christology? In this well-documented account of the presence of Christ's image in Latin America, Samuel Escobar answers that question with cultural, missiological, and theological competence. I know of no other work within Protestantism that has achieved what Escobar did in this book—not another modern Christology of sorts but the path for the construction of Original Christology from the context of the American Global South, beyond normative occidentalized theological attempts.”

Reading the Bible Around the World

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Reading the Bible Around the World is a bold invitation to engage the biblical text with a posture of epistemic humility and hermeneutical generosity, however unfinished. Each chapter helps us develop different levels of intercultural competence through interpretive routines that guide us toward mutual belonging and co-reading the Bible. Ultimately, this work is an introduction for how to re-form our racial-patriarchal reading habits, forged through centuries of inhabiting colonial modernity spaces and identities that have formed us into self-sufficient entrepreneurs of single truths. This is a text highly recommended for the global Christian of today and tomorrow.”

Remembering Lived Lives

History & Biography

“Postcolonial in location, decolonial in agenda, and transoccidental in approach, Michael Jimenez's Remembering Lived Lives is a welcomed contribution to the fields of Latino/a Global Studies and world Christian history. Jimenez engages autonomous critical disciplines of the American Global South such as Dussel's theory of transmodernity, Mignolo's border thinking, and Anzaldua's mestiza consciousness to produce alternative historiographic routes, hence, pointing to the recovery and discovery of Christian knowledge from a different place, non-Eurocentered and yet not anti-Western.”
