Christian Living
“At last! A mature book on daily spirituality that is painfully and delightfully honest. Charles Ringma extracts from a lifetime of listening to God and to those he serves what he calls ‘the hermitage of the heart.’ Through generously making his own heart available to others, he evokes in us the desire for spiritual depth. My own soul has been nurtured. And yours will be also.”
Evangelism & Missions
“Masterfully combining 'how come' and 'how to,' Neal Johnson has crafted an instant classic on marketplace missiology. His unusually rich experiences in work, ministry and education prepared him to offer in a single volume almost everything we need to know philosophically, theologically, scripturally and practically with the greatest mission opportunity in the twenty-first century--business as mission. While elaborating the complexities and ambiguities of definition and implementation--this is no slick quick fix book--Johnson leaves us with a heart panting after God?s own heart in the words of Jesus: 'As the Father has sent me, I am sending you' (John 20:21), a fully incarnational mission.”
Work, Money & Leadership
“Larry Peabody has gathered up his life of learning, teaching, and working in this superb book. It is personal, practical, accessible, enlightening, evocative, comprehensive, beautifully crafted, and above all, scripturally sound, even prophetic. I commend it wholeheartedly. It could change your life for the good!”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Kathleen Rochester has crafted an extraordinary book. She takes us through the entire Old Testament hunting for a critical truth: how does God give leadership to his people? Reading this fine book will provide a way of relating to people, organizations, churches, and businesses that is truly life-giving. It would make a fascinating Bible study for people in small groups. I commend it heartily.”
Bible Studies & Devotionals
“Charles Ringma has crafted a unique genre of inspirational literature. . . . Many of these meditations are riveting--stopping us in our tracks and pointing us to God and life. Far from being otherworldly and cloistered, Ringma takes us deeper into this life and, at the same time, the life to come. Walking with these godly men and women then and today . . . is a rich and not-to-be missed experience.”
Bible Studies & Devotionals
“This much-needed spirituality of everyday life tells how God relates to our work, relationships, sexuality, friendships, leadership, and our troubles—best gained through a well-told story. And what better story than that of King David, who was a layman and not a priest. David found strength in God and dealt directly with God not just in the quiet time but in the thick of life—a delightful contrast with religious piety. Thank you Steven Daly!”
Missional God, Missional Church
Theology
“Drawing on theological conversation partners throughout the history of the church, and more importantly the text of Scripture, Ross Hastings has crafted the definitive work on the missional church. Hastings brings into a dynamic synthesis years of pastoral experience and academic research and teaching. This is theology at its best: grounded in the Word of God, immensely practical and founded supremely on the beautiful reality of the missional triune God. After a careful analysis of our societal and ecclesial reality, Hastings takes us on an inspiring tour of trinitarian theology, Christian humanism, the kingdom of God and a deep ecclesiology. The end result of God's mission, he argues, is the inbreaking of the kingdom, shalom in the world and a fully human existence for people inside and outside the church. Thus the missional church would be both wide and deep. Would that this book were read and applied by every church leader.”
“This remarkable book contains truth wrung out of personal experience, the good and the bad of it: loss, anger, loneliness, unemployment, divorce, immigration, marginalization, laughter, provision, mission, and neighboring, just to mention a few. Yes, theology it is, but not the arid intellectual kind one sometimes gets in seminaries or the pulpit. I, for one, savor this book and covet it for others to read and fid their own way into the kingdom of God.”
“This is a heart-warming book on a critical topic. We need both genders to experience full Christian spirituality and to give holistic leadership in the church and world. Through these personal stories men of all cultures are invited to equip the women in their lives. A delicious read.”
Stranger in the Theologians’ Den
History & Biography
“This book is a profound blessing to ponder. Over the twenty years Willy Kotiuga spent as an electrical engineer meeting with a group of very diverse Christian theologians, he concluded, ‘Theology . . . is not about finding definitive answers but about embracing the mystery and the beauty of the divine in every aspect of life’ (p. 27).”
Prayer & Spiritual Formation
“This book is needed—especially needed by very active Christians like me. It is so easy to allow service to be exchanged for devotion to God and silently listening—simply being with God. This is the heart of friendship with God, that amazing gift Jesus gives his followers. Wallbridge has shared his life with us in this tiny though profound book, but the impact of it can redound for an eternity of luxuriating in the presence of God.”
Transforming Daily Work into a Divine Vocation
Work, Money & Leadership
“I commend this book wholeheartedly, having lived long enough to know when there was virtually nothing on work. But Robert Banks approaches this everyday subject with a special slant—God’s calling, or vocation. His treatment of the biblical, theological, and historical basis of work as a divine vocation is worth the price of the book. But there is much, much more.”
Christian Living
“Throwing a poem to drowning people seems ridiculous. But when people are struggling with meaninglessness, it might be just the thing. And Charles Ringma’s poetry is compressed wisdom, extracted—indeed, wrung—out of his own life. And wisdom is what we need—practical insight on flourishing. There are hints of eternity and faith in God in this alphabet of everyday life. As Ringma says, ‘We are struck not by a hand, but by a whisper.’”
