History & Biography
“This is an important work on the history of Baptist ecclesiology, and I am delighted to see it published. It is well argued, insightful and timely given the increasing interest in Baptist ecclesiology. I expect this book to play a significant role in the ongoing discussions of Baptist history and polity. Renihan's work has benefited not only my academic considerations but also my direct pastoral work.”
Preaching & Worship
“years of local church ministry, rooted in sound theology, and written with pastoral care this book is a wonderfully helpful resource for all those involved in planning corporate worship services. Croft and Adkins engage worship planning with intentionality, carefulness and joy, writing with theological conviction as well as awareness of differences among God’s people and awareness of particular needs and situations of each local congregation. I also particularly appreciate their encouragement for churches to re-engage the historic practice of singing the psalms. I heartily commend this book!”
John Brown of Haddington on Frequent Communion
Preaching & Worship
“I am delighted to see this significant work by John Brown of Haddington available once again with the valuable historical introduction by Dr. Soderberg. More frequent communion, thoughtfully led, would enhance the health of our churches, and this brief address argues well for the practice. I hope it may stir many to consider more frequent communion.”
Lost in Wonder, Love, and Praise
Arts & Literature
“In days gone by, pastors were quite commonly poets and the authors of many of our great hymns. The loss of poetry among our pastors has been detrimental in many ways. Justin Wainscott, in this wonderful collection of original poems, demonstrates a return to these old paths. Pastors, notice how the careful and beautiful use of words can help you reach the heart. Believers, in general, experience how slowly contemplating these poetic meditations can nurture your soul, lead you in praise, give words for your laments, and generally tune your heart to God. This has been my experience as I have read these poems, and as we have sung many of them in church. I heartily commend this volume to you, confident it will be a blessing.”
The Appearing of God Our Savior
Theology
“This excellent book fills a long-standing need for a thorough assessment of the theology expressed in these letters without the undue but widespread skepticism about the letters. With clear and accessible writing, Smith beautifully articulates the theology of the Pastoral Epistles, showing also how it fits with the rest of Pauline, and indeed New Testament, theology, making this a wonderful resource for anyone studying 1–2 Timothy and Titus.”
Church Leadership & Ministry
“Many younger pastors (and not so young ones as well) have never received the sort of practical guidance that Brian Croft gives in Visit the Sick. It will now be a recommended text in my pastoral ministries class, and I heartily commend it to others.”
Theology
“The biggest issues in our day revolve around anthropology—what it means to be human and how human beings can flourish. Therefore, I rejoice to see this clear, concise exploration of the issues by Pastor Tavernelli. With theological depth, historical awareness, and pastoral concern, Pastor Tavernelli provides sound, biblical answers to these questions, speaking to the regular person in the pew. This book will be a wonderful resource for individuals, reading groups, and congregations.”
