Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This is a unique and important commentary. It is a milestone in the collection and comparative interpretation of ancient Near Eastern texts, pictures, and other archaeological materials as well as geographical, historical, and cultural information as they relate to the Old Testament. There is nothing else like it available today. The interpretations provided are usually cogent and convincing. Where there is legitimate debate, the explanations generally show due caution. There will always be disagreements between scholars on such matters, but the many comparative and archaeological resources assembled in these volumes make it a veritable gold mine for those who desire to take the ancient context of the Lord's work and word seriously in their study, teaching, and preaching of Holy Scripture.”
A Catholic Introduction to the Bible
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Carefully researched and...of benefit to biblical scholars of all kinds. The authors are judicious in...the way they deal with critical issues of composition and interpretation.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This is a well-written and finely illustrated survey of the Old Testament. It is readable for college students, and both students and professors can rely on it for evenhanded treatment of difficult topics in Old Testament studies. This new updated edition is welcome.”
A Survey of the Old Testament Workbook
Discipleship & Christian Education
“This is a well-written and finely illustrated survey of the Old Testament. It is readable for college students, and both students and professors can rely on it for evenhanded treatment of difficult topics in Old Testament studies. This new updated edition is welcome.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“"In this volume Andrew Schmutzer has published the results of his long-term exegetical, contextual, inter-textual, literary, historical, theological, cultural, and implicational investigation of the creation mandate in Genesis 1, its co-texts in Genesis 1-11, and related texts elsewhere in the Hebrew Bible. His work is both thorough and penetrating, and it is conservative in terms of its submission to the text exegetically, hermeneutically, and theologically . . . This is a very helpful monograph on one of the most important and debated sections of the Bible.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This is a well-argued and well written book on an important topic. Dr. Nonnenmacher starts with Exodus 22:27 where God declares, ‘I am compassionate,’ in the regulation about not keeping overnight a neighbor’s cloak. The author shows full awareness of the fact that Ancient Near East law collections also include clear indications of humanitarian concern, as well as the special importance of the Lord’s compassion in the Bible. He is aware of the methodological issues involved and navigates the discussion in an honest and well-informed way.”
Christian Living
“It is a joy to commend this book to all Christians, and to all who want to learn what Christianity really is whether you are a believer or not. Bill Hull has genuinely revealed his soul and his experience as a pastoral leader, but more than that, he has gotten to the heart of things in a rare way.”
Dictionary of the Old Testament: Prophets
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This is a landmark volume on the prophets written by serious scholars intimately familiar with the topics on which they have written. It will serve as a marvelous starting point for much classroom teaching on the prophets as well as for study, research and writing. The bibliographies are incredibly useful and up to date. The articles themselves are well-written and current on the most recent developments in scholarly opinion across the spectrum of historical-critical and theological schools. This volume, like the others in the series, is a treasure trove of good and reliable information.”
Theology
“This is a badly needed book. It pushes back against one of the ways in which historical, philosophical, and dogmatic systematic theology have overridden the biblical text and the needs of the Christian life in favor of a simplistic absolute view of God as static, non-interactive, and non-affective. Yes, God is sovereign, so the struggle in fallen creation cannot overcome him, but God has also chosen to struggle right along with us all along the way.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This is an amazing volume. The author is a seasoned and celebrated Old Testament scholar who has managed to write an encyclopedic and in-depth biblical theology of worship that covers virtually every conceivable element of the topic. At the same time, he has written this book in a way that speaks understandably to contemporary issues in the church. This will be a key resource for scholars, pastors, and lay people for decades to come.”
From Paradise to the Promised Land
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This is a magnificent volume. I have used Alexander's textbook on the Pentateuch in my courses for many years. He now offers a carefully revised, expanded, and updated fourth edition that will carry us into the future.”
How Can We Help Victims of Trauma and Abuse?
Church Leadership & Ministry
“This is a well-written, well-documented, and very important book on a major concern in society and the church today. Abuse and trauma are nothing new, of course, but they have become rampant. This book can help the church understand and become active in helping those who are victims of this very heartbreaking epidemic. The authors masterfully combine the empirical, scientific, statistical, and clinical data with careful articulation of biblical and theological truth about the realities of life as fallen and corrupt people in a fallen and corrupt world. God has done his work to redeem us for now and eternity through Jesus Christ, and this includes those who have suffered severe abuse and trauma. The church needs to be fully active in reaching out to meet abused and traumatized people where they are with God's love and grace.”

In Quest of the Historical Adam
Science & Faith
“This volume covers an amazing amount of territory in both biblical and scientific studies relevant to the question of the historical Adam and Eve. The author’s wide reading, amazing erudition, and carefully articulated judgment shine through. One does not need to agree with every point the author makes, every step in his argument, or his conclusions to gain a great deal from reading this volume. He faces the issues squarely, explains them clearly, and carries the reader along with him well. Those who seek to contribute to this discussion going forward must pay careful attention to what this highly accomplished scholar has set forth so well in this book.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This is an impressive volume. The section-by-section commentary is well done, but the gold mine is the author’s careful analysis of the reception history of Genesis in the rest of the canon, especially the New Testament, as the title suggests. The writer shows awareness of a vast amount of literature from Second Temple, Roman, and rabbinic times that contributes to the history of interpretation of Genesis. This commentary is an invaluable resource for reading Genesis canonically for the sake of preaching the Gospel and living the Christian life.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This is a fascinating, helpful, and well-written book. Vern Poythress has managed to engage in a meaningful way with the serious questions raised today about reading Genesis 1–3 carefully, with hermeneutical finesse, and, at the same time, has interacted with related modern scientific theories with discernment. One does not need to agree with all his conclusions to learn from his way of treating questions, discussions, and competing views fairly and with wisdom. This book helps us think more clearly and deeply about some of the issues that concern us the most.”
Interpreting the Old Testament
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Craig Broyles and his colleagues have written a fine book for those who are beginning their journey into the serious study of the Old Testament. The chapters are easy to read yet truly informative-even formative-for the reader. The basic questions are asked and receive clear, concise, and penetrating answers. This book will no doubt serve as a standard reference tool and textbook for years to come.”
Majestic Mirror or Mind-Bending Mirage
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“This is a very important book for those who take the Bible seriously in the modern controversy over sex and gender. The extensive background of the author in the Hebrew Old Testament and the Greek New Testament, as well as their background worlds, comes through in his detailed treatment of all the relevant biblical texts and biblical creation theology. He brings all this to bear on a very well defined and carefully articulated understanding of the cultural, sociological, and philosophical realities that permeate the discussion today. The author takes a definite position, holding that biblical creation theology offers a binary approach to sexuality, but shows full awareness of the issues involved and debates surrounding them. He is also sensitive to the pastoral concerns and need to show God’s grace to those who suffer with gender dysphoria of one kind or another.”

Remembering the Covenants in Song
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This is an important book on an important topic. Young-Sam Won has helped us understand the relationship between the Abrahamic and Mosaic Covenants, and its significance for biblical theology overall. His intertextual, exegetical, and theological analysis of Psalm 105 shows how these covenants work together in an ongoing way to give shape to God’s redemptive work in history and in our lives today.”
